There are a lot of film and series I am interested in which are not released in Brazil or ever will be. Downloading them has been a great option.

The problem is many of them are PAL DVDs which I need to convert onto NTSC files.

To do that is not an easy task, as it doesn't seem to be a straightaway operation. First I have to convert the VOB files onto MPEG-2; then transcode them to NTSC; then convert those new MPEG files onto MPEG-2 and burn the disc.

Problems I have on this road:

1) How to select the audio language I want?

2) How to preserve the Spanish, English or Portuguese subtitles?

Any programs you can suggest to help me on this task?

Hi there,

I used DVDSanta to convert 1 PAL to NTSC and it worked out pretty well.

I selected the main .IFO

then selected NTSC High Quality, change the destination directory
Go for it and it worked.

Can you convert PAL to NTSC without losing quality?
YES.

... However, the process is not as easy as you may like.

You will find a lot of answers here, including using IFOEdit, vobblankers etc, none of them really works.

To convert PAL to NTSC, you need to follow these process:

1). change the resolution from 720x576 to 720x480.
2). re-encode the VOB files using 720x480.
3). change the frame rate from 25 fps to 29.97 fps.
4). authoring the dvd.

for point #1 and #2, the software to use is either TMPGEnc or Cinema Craft Encoder.

For point #3, the software to use is DGPulldown.

For point $4, the software to use is any DVD authoring softwares.
