So I decided to buy the damn Dvd burner cuz it takes too many cd's to record seasons :) and I was looking at few local sores next to me.
All of them had LG 4163 which they told me is +/- fopr $55 canadian.
Don't know if it's a good burner cuz u ppl don't even mention LG burners over here :) Saw a lot of ppl mention BenQ is it good company ?

Anyway need some direction in which i should look as company wise and model, not too expensive though.

And I don't want Dual Layer just normal DVD burner +/-

thank you up front

Also one question that i forgot, I don't want dual layer because not all dvds will read it, dvds r a little more expensive...

But if i'd buy Dual layer burner could I just buy normal dvd's and record normally or is it just for dual layer dvds ?>

Most store bought movies ARE double layer! When you burn one to a single layer disc, you have to compress it, usually. Double layer is the way to go. Especially since the cost of the blanks keep coming down. One day soon, everyone will only record DL discs, because they will be affordable.

Most dvd players DO read double layer discs. The fact that they play the store bought movies proves that. The trick to making most players read them, is to booktype them as DVD-Roms. That makes them more compatable. Read the different areas in these forums, about burning, and you'll learn more about booktyping.

Yes, a double layer burner will burn a single layer +R or -R disc.
Good luck!

well i read a lot on the forums, and started to looking more into double layer :)
I was looking at this one http://www.factorydirect.ca/catalog/product_spec.php?pcode=BQ0162

Is it a good burner, for that price (canadian) is it a good buy or should i look at something else ? And I did look into differencess into DVD-R and DVD+R and booktyping and all that stuff.

So basically with that player i'd still have normal dvd burner and upgrade to Dual layer wich i don't have to use untill i'm ready.

Sorry that this looks like I'm a totall newb but u know how it is when u first start buying things.

As far as I know, BenQ makes pretty decent stuff.
I use a BenQ DVD Rom drive, and am happy with it's performance. I think it's not a bad deal too. Go for it, and enjoy!

Oh yes! I have my original benq 1620 and well over 1000+ backups.I had several other burners in my spare pc,but their compatability totally sucked.I had to watch out for where ever I sent my backups and which format to use.

99%+ success backup rate,95% compatability rate for stand alones/pc drives/and ps2s.

Now with 2 benq 1620s, no more worrying about where my backups are going to play. They've got dual format, but I booktype my plus format media to dvd-rom and that's why they are a lot more compatable on stand alone players. The dash format doesn't fare as well from them.

Dual layer media is falling in prices, and I have no trouble with the verbatims.Still pricey, but they will come down even lower so it would be handy to have the dl capability.

They also make the 1625 with the lightscribe and the 1640,but I don't know much about them. They will be my next burner when my main benq dies.
