Hi,
I bought this PX-716A a year ago and never had any problems. I bought maxwell media 4x DVD+R media when I first purchase the burner, had no problems. Then I ran out of blank dvds, then I bought more maxwell 4x DVD+R, then I couldnt get any of them to work. So I went out and bought a 100 pack of Fuji 8X DVD+R, never had a single problem with that batch. Ok last week I finally ran out of those, so I went to Best Buy to buy more blank dvds. So I purchase 5 pack of 25 Fuji 8x DVR+8. I had nothing but coasters one after another with that batch of Fuji. So I went out and bought 2 packs of 50 Sony 8x DVD+R. I had no luck with them either. It will go thru the process of reading and burning to disc, but once i try and play it in my home dvd player, it always says "No Disc Error". I thought it might have been my home dvd player, so I tried it in my other 2 dvd players and they all said "Please insert Disc". Even tried playing it on my computer and it says "please insert disc" also. I even have the latest firmware, which is 1.08. Something needs to be done, getting very expensive for me because Best Buy wont let me return the blank dvd because they were open. Scared to death to buy more blank dvds, fear of not working either and thowing my money away. Does my Plextor len needs cleaning or just replace the Plextor with another dvd drive ?
Hate to throw it away since I paid $130 last year for it.

It would be a good idea to purchase maybe a 5 pack of DVD's to test. I feed my Plextor 716A, Verbatim and Ridata media, and it never burps.

Life is good!

Yes that might be a quick fix, but that doesnt solve the problem my burner unable to read most blank dvds out there. DVD companies always changing the dyes they use on their dvds. So one batch of Fuji worked for me but then the second batch of Fuji failed because they change the dye. So I would go out and purchuse Verbatim and Ridata and then find out that it work. After I use up all my blank Verbatim and Ridata, I would have to buy more, which by then, they change the dye texture and find out that it wont work with my dvd burner. So I turn to you guys for help to solve this problem of mind.

ok GrandpaBW, I ended up taking your advice and now I have Verbatim 16x DVD+R sitting on my shelf. Even went out and tried some Sony 8x DVD+R. So far the only disc it would read were the batch of Fuji 8x DVD+R 100 pack I bought a while back. But once I ran out of those, its been nothing but a nightmare. So far I have these blank dvds sitting on my shelf. Maxell 8X DVD+R 50 Pack, Fuji 8x DVD+R 25 pack, Sony 8x DVD+R 50 pack, and Verbatim 16X DVD 25 pack. As you can see, its been pretty expensive for me so far. Yes I have the latest firmware installed for my Plextor 716A. I got tried of missing around with it so I order a new NEC 3540A burner, cost me $41 dollars, from newegg.com and wouldnt you beleive it ? It burned every single brand of blank disc I had sitting on my shelf. So what I am going to do is send that peice of chit Plextor 716A back to Plextor after I call their tech support up and have them give me a RMA number. From what I read about their succuss rate about returning good working plextors back to their customers, I figured it would take 3 tries, before I get back a good working Plextor 716A. LOl I can always use it on my spare computer.
