I have tried Taiyo Yuden -R 4x (supermediastore.com),TDK+R with 2.4x speed, and Memorex(never worked, but I thought I would give it a try)
I use SM3.6 and my backups work about 20-25% of the time. The biggest problem I get is slow load times in between scenes.
I've heard all about TY and verbatium being the best at 2x or 1x my problem is I can't find these discs. I know some discs say 8x and support other speeds such as 1,2,and 4. and others only burn 8x.
Can anyone tell me specifically where to buy non-fake TY or Verbatium that support 1x or 2x write speeds.
thank you

Hi pmaknelho,
Your problem probably isn't media realated. The TY you got from supermedia are genuine for sure.

What problems are you haveing exactly? Is it crappy playback or just failing to write to the disks at all? It sounds more like your burner might be bad? What is the brand and model of your DVD Writer also have you tried updating the firmware of that drive. Updating the firmware could solve all your problems. What people mean by 2x or 1x is that they usually just burn the 8x media at x2 or x1 speed, but 4x is usually pretty safe. What software are you using to back up your DVD's?

Hi there,

What DVD burner do you have and what's the firmware revision on it ?

VSO Inspector v1.1 --> http://www.vso-software.fr/
can provide you all this.

It will also provide you the Media ID of those blank media.

I have 2 DVD burners, and using Maxell 8x will show me all supported speeds by the drive, which are 2x, 4x and 8x.

Maybe your firmware is outdated, and is not sure how to burn those.

My 2 cents...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I currently dont have the internet at my new house so I can only check the internet during the week at work. To answer some of your questions...
I got the burner for Xmas I believe it's a Sony w/dual layer capabilities about 100-150 bucks.
Problems I get: Sometimes perfect playback, sometimes little 5 sec delays(EX: between plays on Madden 06), sometimes major sound and video skipping, sometimes freezes after 10 missions(EX:San Andreas), and sometimes SM3.6 loads a black screen and nothing else.
I'm kinda of a noob when it comes to computers so I don't know what firmware means, but I just upgraded Win98 to Xp and having had a successful backup yet. I never had problems with movies before, but now I am.
I also use DVD Decryptor for games and shrink/nero for movies.
Thanks for any help. I have a computer friend that is very helpful I'll ask him about firmware and questions you asked me. again, thanks.

I finally updated my firmware and have had no problems with movies. Sometimes when I watch, for example, Family Guy the picture distorts in some parts of the screen for about 1/2 sec. What causes this? Bad discs or bad burn, rip?

I still haven't been able to backup a game. I had Madden 06 ripped to my HD before I updated my firmware and tried to burn the image. No success. Could the old firmware effect the rip? So I went to rip Madden again, but by this time my 5 yr. old son scratched the disc. I'm going to borrow a friend's this weekend and see what happens.
Thanks for the help

Hi there,

When you purchase the VSO GoldenMemberShip, you will release license keys for:

CopyToDVD
PhotoDVD
DivxToDVD
Blindwrite

Life Time Upgrade on these 4 software.

You are also in title to receive a registration key for any new software they will create in the future.

I personally use all 4 software.

They also have VSO Inspector v1.1 which is a FREE tool to provide all the needed information about your drive and your media.

It can also scan your burned media "Sector by Sector" and do a File Scan to make sure your burned media is 100% error free.

All software are available in Trial Version on their website.

I hope you enjoy their software as much I a do !

Hi there,
Quote:
Blindwrite, it's your backup! Blindwrite extracts all the characteristics of your media to your harddrive to reproduce a working copy. It allows you to protect your investments against damages caused by children, scratches or problems caused by frequent usage. As a side effect of the used technology, this product can also backup some protected media. It is illegal to copy media you don't own! Consult your legal advisor first.
Here's what it says on the VSO Website.
It's a copier (CD and DVD)...

Lots of stuff off the internet are in Divx/Xvid format (.AVI)
You will find some .mpg (VCD and SVCD)

As for a good firewall, I suggest ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/)
As for Antivirus, I use Norton Antivirus.
