Illegal Disc Error???

I've been able to burn a couple hundred discs with not problem. Then I saw some 1-8x Sony -R's on sale and thought I'd buy them. Nice looking disc, but when I try to burn I get an "illegal disc error" and "cannot start disc-at-once". This is the first media I Haven't been able to burn onto. I've used TY and some crappy Compusa store brand with no problem. Any idea why the Sony would be giving me fits?
By the way, I have an NEC ND-1300A with whatever firmware it came with about 6 months ago.

I have a NEC 1300a and the current firmware is 1.0B. I believe there is a 1.0C available from rpc1 for this drive, but that site is down. Here is the NEC site

I remember I had problems with Sony disks and this drive until I upgraded to the 1.0A which took care of it. Good luck.
