Hi all, I have just downloaded the trial version for this. Is it worth installing yet or waiting until there is more support for it (i.e. drivers etc). I can't seem to find xp64 specific motherboard drivers so don't want to take the plunge if it won't work. Also do the current high end games still work okay (hl2, doom3 etc)? One last question...how much will it cost if I am happy woth thr trial? Microsoft did not make the price very easy to find on their website which makes me worry!
My rig: Intel Q9650 3.0Ghz, ATI Radeon 4870 X2 2048Mb, 6Mb DDR2 6400 RAM, Asus Rampage Formula X48 Motherboard.

I haven't installed it yet, but check out amdboard or amdzone for info on xp64. Some of the newer games (like Farcry) actually have 64bit versions. I think it costs about $145 at newegg.com (only OEM version offered. I'm sure that your Asus board is supported, but a few of the peripherals (some printers, scanners, etc) do not have 64 bit drivers yet from the manufacturers. Again, check amdboard for details on component compatibilty.

Okay I've installed Windows XP64 and so far I'm impressed and it's only a trial version. My board uses Nforce4 drivers and 64bit versions are available from Nvidia so no worries there. My cards work fine too in Sli mode. Have now got the 64bit version of Farcry and it's still good, some textures are higher res and some parts use offset bump mapping to make things look a bit nicer. My only concern is how to buy it. I've heard that they will only supply XP64 as an OEM product (i.e with a new computer or piece of hardware). Although they have not said what kind of hardware you can get it with. You can slso get it if you already have XP pro 32 bi (you get a free upgrade). But I currently only had XP home edition as it was good enough for what I wanted. So....should I go out and buy XP pro 32 bit and hope that I can upgrade?? This will cost me £200 or so. Or wait it out to see how they market it? It would appear that once again Microsoft are making sure that they are forcing 64bit PC users to buy a pro version of their software. What a con. I hate the way that Microsoft own the PC OS market.

Usually OEM means that the software can be supplied with any essential piece of hardware. Most places you can get oem software by simply buying a floppy drive or cd-rom drive. I did this to get an oem version of windows xp media centre edition 2005

Thanks dude. And you're right, they are bundling it with a mouse! I didn't think XP64 would be out until 2006, in fact I read this on a website only yesterday. So how can it be for sale? Confusing!

Aha! Thanks dude.
Longhorn?? IS this the one they have now renamed to Windows Vista? I have a beta version of Vista. No point loading it though as there is no official support for it yet. Still, the new graphics foundation sounds swish.

I have the trial version of XP64 and I have to take my hat off to nvidia. They have both Nforce4 chipset drivers and have upgraded their latest forceware 77.77 to 64bit. If only other companies had their forethought. Being an Nvidia gfx card owner I have to laugh long and loud at most of my friends who opted to get ATi cards only to find no 64bit drivers. I wonder when they will sort this?

actaually allthere are ATI radeon drivers available just check out the ATI website. I have been using this 64bit trial . I like it except for the fact that a lot of software does not work. there seems tp be more apps becoming available each day. for all of you who are looking for apps and drivers for your 64bit windows you should try this helpful webite
