I just sold off my HP zd 7000 and am looking to get a new machine. While shopping I've come up with some questions. NVIDIA or RADEON? ATHALON 64 or PENTIUM 4? I would like to keep the cost under 3k. I will be using this machine for various things not in the least to include games, movies,(backing up both) creating my own movies, various other applications such as power point, excell and word docs. as well as a number of graphics designs. It will also be intigrated with an assortment of marine electronics on occasion. I am looking for all opinions as to the best to get as I do not want to exceed the machines capabilities in the next year. I am hoping this one will last around 5 yrs or so. Thanks to all who submit an opinion.

This place COBOC
http://www.coboc.com/index.asp
is famous as a Laptop supply house, for DIYers (our kinda place, LoL :^)
You can build your laptop like building a desktop rig...
Betcha $3,000 bucks would go a long way there, too (even Canadian $$, LoL)
Speaking of which, ATI is a good Canadian company - and where were nVidia in the 1980's, when ATI was making video boards for XTs and ATs (286's)?!
Athlon vs. Pentium? Well I'm an AMD guy, but the Pentium Mobile processors are good:
