Hey guys , Im new here and i'm having a problem with my burner, when i use dvd decrypter it reads discs at 2.2X speed, as if it were capped. What can i do to go back to the max speed like before. This not only happens with DvD Decrypter but another program as well. What can i do? thnx

Edit:I have a Lite on SOHW-1633S

Some DVD movie origials have, in laymen's terms, a denser amount of data. So one movie might rip faster than another even though both movies are the same time length when playing them.

But the real reason for slow rip on your burner is that burners are optimized for writing not reading fast. That is why most of us use a DVD-ROM drive to rip the original and then burn the backup with a DVD-Writer drive.

Lite-On is a good brand name ... they make a 16X DVD-ROM that is the beloved ripper of many posters on these Afterdawn threads.

Best regards

well I used to read the dvds (rippin em) at around 8x speed , i tried another cd and it does the same thing with so something must've changed. one thing i did was installed Daemon Tools before this stuff happened, could that have changed anything?

Don't know anything about Daemon Tools conflicts ...

But check out this: I personally use Windows2000 but if you have WindowsXP, that version plays a nasty trick I've read about. If your DVD drive registered a certain number of errors (perhaps from ripping a scuffed-up original disk), XP thinks it needs to slow down the ripping process to correct for this. It does this by "helpfully" changing your drive speed settings from ultra-DMA or regular DMA modes to the slower PIO mode.

You probably know already, but you can check for this by going to "Device Manager" in XP's "System Properties"/"Hardware" Tab and checking your IDE controller settings. Make sure that all your drives on both IDE channels are set to "DMA if Available". If any devices on either IDE channel#1 or channel#2 are set to PIO, then change them back to DMA. Don't forget you have to reboot for these changes to take effect.

the thign was set to PIO mode, so i chose DMA if Available so now it's on DMA but the thing underneath says Current Transfer mode: PIO Mode even though i changed it to DMA... :(

I guess we are on the right track. Try it again. Do one IDE channel at a time.

Be Super-sure you reboot afterwards.

Go back in and do the other channel.

Reboot.

If that doesn't work, maybe someone else can jump in with more knowlege of XP(I assume your using XP). Your drive HAS to be new enough to be DMA compatible!

Oh ya ... your IDE cables that go from the motherboard to the drive ARE rated at 100 speed or better, yes? They must be, because you said you got faster speeds in the past, right?

Still suggest you buy a lite-on 16X DVD-ROM. $30 crumby dollars. fast rips. If you continue to rip with your burner, you are shortening it's life and burners cost more.

Cool! But how the hell did you find that single entry in all the DXC threads??? The damn search function has been broken over there for a year now. I think it is less than gracious of AD not to fix the search function there because there is 3 years of knowlege from the old days to be had. And the guys over here (not all) tend to jump on DXC posts and say go away. But without search on the DXC threads, self help is all but impossible!
