Hey all. I am thinking about upgrading my PC but I am not sure which to do first, what not to upgrade, etc. Basically just want to upgrade core components such as Processor,RAM,possibly video card. Recently bought a new HDD so am ok on that front. Obviously to upgrade these, will probably have to buy a new mobo.Anyway here are my current specs:

AMD AthlonXP 1900
ECS K7S5A (Rev 3.x) mobo
2 x 256 Crucial DDR RAM
ATi Radeon 9000 Pro

Anyone any ideas? Let me know if you need anymore info, thanks for any help!

Budget is about £200. Thats about $360. Just wanna upgrade so I can play games more smoothly etc. I use FS2004 quite a lot and some of the addons for that are quite performance demanding. Not sure about the PSU, would have to get back to you on that one. Thanks for your help!

i would just upgrade my mobo with a better chipset, more RAM, and a better video card,

as far as the mobo look around, and post your findings, and ill give you my best opinion, but i would go with at least 1GB of RAM, and a Nvidia Geforce 6600GT video card, the card is around $150-$180 dollars, but best card for its price!!!

Ok well the Mobo's I looked at where:

MS2 K7N2
Gigabyte 7NF-RX (7NF-R2)
MS1 K7N2 Delta 2 LSR
MS1 KT6 Delta FISR

So would you leave the processor how it is do you think? Thanks for your help

you could upgrade it if you want but for gaming your main issues are gonna be your RAM and your Video Card..... start there first

Ok thanks a lot for your help. I will look at RAM and Video card first, then in a month or two look at processor. By the way, how does an Ati Radeon 9600 256MB gfx card line up against the 6600GT? I guess its not quite as good as I found it to be cheaper. Or the Radeon X700 128MB?

The ATI 9600 can't compete with a 6600GT and the X700 is a little closer but is only avalible in PCI-E afaik, you could get a 6600GT & 1 gig of ram quite easily for £200 ( i take it you in the U.K )

Graphics card:

RAM:

MOBO:

This lot comes in @ £204.00 inc vat & delivery for the U.K & i belive you can use your exsiting CPU with it , it ain't a screaming system but at least it will leave you room for improvement at a later date if you want to add a faster CPU .....

Yep for gaming, you should definitely get a nice GFX card such as the 6800GT. The 6800GT is a nice balance of price and future-proofity(I know thats not a word) If you had a bigger budget, I'd suggest upgrading your processor too, as yours looks rather outdated...

AMD Athlon 64 FX-55, MSI K8N Neo4-F Motherboard, Creative Labs T5400 5.1 Surround Sound Speaks, Pioneer DVR-109 16X DVD Burner, MSI GeForce 8800 GTS PCIe GFX Card, 1 GB Value Ram.

I agree, is best to update mobo, RAM, and video card. I would also suggest you go with nVidia card. I think you will notice a considerable difference in gaming if you upgrade the mobo with one that has a higher FSB frequency of RAM and utilize speed with higher frequency graphics card which should also run 256MB. You can always upgrade processor at later date. AMD +1900 is good enough to run smoothly on right board. Just my opinion!
