I have two systems and on one my 716UF will burn at 16X but when I put it on the other it will only burn good at 8X. It says its burning at whatever rate I say but it usually just goes to just under 12X then drops down, back up, down again resulting in a longer burn time than 8X takes. My litey 1653 also stops at the same place leaving me to believe something on the computer is causing it to slow burning times. Anyone with any ideas will be appreciated. Its kind of like it went into pio mode but since both are usb2 thats not it of course. Wondering if sometning affects usb somewhat in the same manner.????

Aw come on. Both usb drives burn nicely at 8x and I know thats more than enough for good burns but they both use to burn higher. Like I said its just like they went to pio mode but they are usb. I thought I would at least get a smart ass answer(openning up for that one huh). Any ideas please.

Well I have a USB 2.0 CD Burner and it works nicely on my one computer, but when I put it on my other one (now non existant) it would go part way through the burn and then it would die and Nero would give a buffer underrun error. From what I found it seemed to be something to do with the mobo. It worked really nice at 1x though, and being slower it seemed that the computer could keep up with it. Never solved the problem though. I just burned multisession CDs. I'm not sure if this is what your looking for but it could spark an idea.

Yeah, stuff like this is almost always because of the motherboard. You will need some type of driver update.

Thanks for the reponses. I took some air and sprayed the fan outlet on the laptop, man it was dirty(watch out for that) and got some improvement. Also a defrag I thought I didn't need was called for. Still trying to speed them up alittle more but ain't we all. Yuk Yuk

Johnny..... you neglected to say what disks you are using!? the disks determine speed, too! Is it a DVD+R 16X disk? If it's an 8x you won't get faster speeds unless you burn with Taiyo Yuden disks! Their disk DVD+R 8x disks will burn at 16x! Just in case you didn't know! But keep in mind.... if you are burning movies you should only burn to 4x anyway! burning at slower speeds will help for a longer lasting, better success rate for moives. if you are burning information on your DVD and want speed.... that's a different story!

Always use TO2 Tys except for dl and then its Verbatim. By the way after checking them out on another computer the Litey was fine but the Plextor 716uf went back to the store for another which seems to be working fine. I love my Plextor but another one bit the dust.
