Does DVD Decrypter 3.5.4 support DL burning?
Does it recognize a DL disc and burning accordingly?
Thanks

Yes..... if all you need is to do a DL back up then it's pretty simple and it's a piece of cake. Put the original movie in dvd-rom drive, put genuine media such as Verbatim "MKM-001-00") in dvd writer.

01) Open up DVD Decrypter
02) MODE, ISO, READ R
03) select "Destination" <---- make it your C: drive or Hard Drive
04) Decrypt (now sit back and relax til it's completed)

01) MODE, ISO, WRITE R
02) select your "Destination" <---- make it your dvd writer with good blank media
03) click on Write, that's it.... easy as smoking.

Thanks Alkohol, I thought it would do it and that it was similar to a single layer backup but I wasn't sure and since I just installed this burner (NEC 3540) and the media is so expensive (Verbatim DVD+R 2.4x) I thought maybe I should inquire into this before proceeding.
Thanks much for the info.

Hi tkboxer,

You are right, Dual Layer media are still very expensive.

So don't copy your Porn XXX DVD on Dual Media ok :)

Keep us posted on your DL experience.
I haven't even bought 1 DL media yet, still too expensive.

I just shrink all my stuff and fit on DVD5 for now.

@tkboxer,

You're welcome.... Yes, DL medias are still pricey, however it's worth the money when they're on sales (like a pack of 3 blanks Verbatim for $9.99). The reason that Verbatim 2.4X DVD+R DL is a bit expensive is because it's quality is higher than any of the other DL medias. I've backed up DL movies using the 2.4X Verbatim DVD+R DL "Made In Singapore" id code: MKM-001-00 and so far they all backed up flawlessly.

The only thing I would add to the excellent guide posted by Alkohol, is the following...

-When selecting the file for the second half (ISO WRITE W), make sure you select the file with an ".mds" extension.
-Right now, try to use Verbatim DVD+R dual layer media, as it seems to be the only one that people universally agree is working.
-Make absoluely CERTAIN your version is the last version of DVDDecrypter, or at least the second to the last. All versions prior to that do not support dual layer, and will result in a coaster.
-I would also suggest resisting the temptation to burn fast, even if the media claims it can handle it. Due to the high costs of the media, I have been conservative and stayed wih 2.4X burns, with 28 successful dual layer burns and no coasters whatsoever.

-Bruce

Is it possible to burn a complete DVD with all the bells & whistles (menus, chapter selections, bonus features) with DVD Decrypter? I tried burning a DVD and it worked, but it's just the movie minus all extras and it'll only play in Cyberlink's PowerDVD player. It won't play in Media Center or Media Player. :-(

Thanks Bruce, I agree, burning at a slowing rate enhances reliable burning. I usually only burn at 4x on single layers and I almost never make a coaster. I will only burn at 2.4x when I burn on DL.

I can't see anything wrong here, I have done a few DL's using the very directions above with no problems. I believe the "imcompatible format" is referring to the disc you are using, the program says it sees a Ritek DVD+R DL disc but it doesn't want to write to it for some unknown reason. The good news is, you most likely did not make a coaster since nothing was written to the disc. If it was me in your shoes my next move would be repeat the process verifying every step and use a different media, try the Verbatim's. It is the brand I have had success with and most people claim it is the only rock solid compatible DL disc on the market at this time. Hope this helps, good luck and post back with your results.

Can anyone tell me what happened to DVD Decrypter? Is the site gone? I cannot update mine or go to the URL - is there a later version than 3.5.4?

Is Lightning gone???

Your NEC dvd burner's firmware is really old, an update is needed in order to recognize more blank media and codes - not only that but it will be more compatibility. The current firmware for your burner is 2.1A - go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1904 and get it and update it will more likely to solve the issue.

I have never used Ritek DL media before, so I can't really comment that it's good or bad. However, I've had 30 successfully burned with the 2.4X Verbatim DVD+R DL (Made In Singapore) without any issue whatsoever. I highly recommend Verbatim for DL media - they're far more superior than any other DL media at the moment.

Again, your dvd burner either doesn't like the media you're using, or it can't recognize the media's code due to an old firmware. Try updating the burner's firmware and try with any 2.4X - 4X Verbatim DVD+R DL for your next DL backup.
