1st time back to back coasters with Decrypter

Someone informed me that one could booktype DVD's through decrypter, so I booktyped to DVD-ROM (I normally booktype them using the booktype utility everytime I backup). Anyway, after burning I attempted to play it and it froze, and Powerdvd gave me error, indicating the DVD was bad. So I burnt it again (thinking bad +R disc), and same results, then I remembered that I set Decrypter to booktype it. Put that setting back to normal, and burnt it again, and viola......success.
I thought it was a pretty good feature, which I had no idea existed, but..........
Anyone else experience this problem? This is first time I've had a coaster with Verbatim, and the 2nd one was with Ridata G05, which is the first time I've had a coaster with them, also.

I didn't know you could book-type with decrypter. How's it done?

When you open it up, on the lower far right there is Icon of a book, select it then select your model, and whatever you want to booktype it.
Good luck, it screwed me up, but.....

In decrypter go to tools>drive>change booktype. Click on the tab that lists your burner. Under change to pick which type of blank dvd you have in the drive then pick DVD Rom under New setting.
You NEC should support this.

sytyguy.....I booked typed my writer with DVDInfo Pro ....... anytime I record an RW or a +R it automatically sets booktype to DVD-ROM. I didn't know you have to set booktype EVERY TIME YOU RECORD!!!! I have checked my disks..... every one of them shows that the DVD+Rs are booktyped to DVD-ROMs! So I guess setting the booktype in DVDInfo Pro sets it for life! Maybe if you booktyped it already as a DVD-ROM it's still that way and you said that EVERY TIME YOU RECORD YOU SET THE BOOKTYPE TO DVD-ROM....maybe you only have to set it once NOT EVERY TIME!

I am using the official booktype utility from Lite-on, which this setting is stored in volatile memory and is lost whenever the drive is reset (system reboot, firmware flash, etc.). Thus, when the drive is reset, the booktype setting will revert to the default setting (i.e., "Normal"). I even used OmniPatcher's auto-bitsetting patch, but that also did nothing to permanently change it to DVD-ROM.
And I also upgraded to latest firmware, which did not help, either.
I'll try DVDInfo Pro, but I don't have much confidence that will help either.

well it worked for me and I don't ever have to worry about the booktype setting again! all my DVD+Rs and RWs are set to DVD-ROM!

Hmmm, strange. When useing the lite-on booktype utility once you set it to booktype dvd+r/rw to dvd-rom it should remain that way unless you manually change it back or you have an older model litey.
As of mid-April 2004, all of the latest LiteOn half-height drives and firmwares support bitsetting! Unfortunately, none of LiteOn's slimline drives (internal laptop drives) currently support bitsetting.
Here are the firmwares where certain LiteOn drives first started to officially support bitsetting. Any of these firmwares and any firmwares released after them will support bitsetting...

Q: [DVD-Writers] How do I use bitsetting (change the booktype) with LiteOn drives?
A: With a few exceptions (e.g., the SOHW-802S and the SOHW-822S), bitsetting on LiteOn drives and rebadged LiteOn drives work like this:
There is a setting stored in the drive's memory that tells the drive what booktype to use whenever it burns a disc.
By default, this setting is set to "Normal" (i.e., keep +R discs as +R and +RW discs as +RW).
The official LiteOn BookType Utility can be used to change this setting. Because all burns will be burned using the current setting, once you change the setting, all subsequent burns will be burned using the new setting without the need to take any further action.
On the screen of this tool, "Current Disc Type" represents the physical disc type of the inserted disc. "Current Disc Booktype" represents the current booktype written on the disc, or if the disc is not written, it will display the current physical disc type. Hint: You can use this to check the booktype of a burned disc. "Change booktype to" is a bit misleading, and it represents the current booktype setting of the drive. Selecting a different setting from the drop-down and clicking "Change" is what changes the current drive setting. Remember, as mentioned above, the current drive setting simply represents what booktype will be used the next time a disc is burned. The "Write Now" button is only for DVD+RW media and is explained in a later bullet.
There is, however, one important caveat. For a number of the older drives/firmwares, this setting is stored in volatile memory and is lost whenever the drive is reset (system reboot, firmware flash, etc.). Thus, when the drive is reset, the booktype setting will revert to the default setting (i.e., "Normal").
For people who want all of their discs to be booktyped, this causes a problem because they will need to remember to change the setting every time the drive resets.
OmniPatcher's auto-bitsetting patch changes this default setting from "Normal" to "DVD-ROM" so that when a drive is reset, the setting will revert to "DVD-ROM" instead of to "Normal." Since auto-bitsetting only changes the default setting that the drive reverts to after a reset, it is still possible to use the LiteOn BookType Utility to change the settings around on a drive with a patched auto-bitsetting firmware.
For the newer firmwares (CS07 or newer, BS0R or newer, and BS41 or newer, to name just a few) that use non-volatile memory (i.e., the EEPROM) to store the setting, the booktype setting is not lost after a reset, and as such, it does not make any sense to have a patch that changes the default revert-to-after-reset setting, and the auto-bitsetting patch is thus not available for these newer firmwares. For these newer firmwares, just set the booktype once using the official utility and forget about it, even after reboots.
Because changing the booktype involves writing data to a disc, it is not possible to change the booktype of a recordable disc after it has been burned. For rewritable media, however, it is possible to change the booktype of burned media by using the LiteOn BookType Utility's "Write Now" button, if your firmware is new enough to support this feature.
Your booktype setting should be stored in the drives memory not volatile memory and the dvd-rom setting should remain unless you change it.

I just found another firmware update (GSOP 11/19/04), I previously had GS0C, and I updated the drive to GS0P, and still I cannot WRITE the changes via the bookmark utility. So it will only update in volatile memory, it will not allow me to write it permanently, darn.
Cause sometimes I forget to run the Bookmark utilty, so it winds up being +R....which sucks.

I'm glad somebody linked you to the CD Freaks website. I frequent there alot and I can provide some insight on your drive. I'm not sure which model Lite-On you have, but I own the rebadged Sony DRU-710A which is just a Lite-ON 1633S. I flashed it with the newest 1533S@1653S CSOP like you pointed out (so I guess you own the same rebadged drive as me) and I didn't have the same problem. Works fine on this firmware. I also flashed with the new, official BYX4 and I had the sane problem. I checked out CD freaks and I found that the Sony firmwares has this bug where it resets the booktype as you pointed out! Might not help you directly, but try cross-flashing with a 1653S and see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the advice, folks.
I have been away on vacation, and I also took the time to read all 28 pages of the crossflashing 851S@832S on Cd Freaks. So I tried a few recommended C/F with no sucess, and since they could not resolve questions from other members with my same problem, I did not ask for help for that reason.
Hence, I will have to live with booktyping right after every bootup.
