I have been burning for a couple years now and never had any problems like I am encountering. I do everything the same way and like it needs to be done. When I backup a dvd now it decrypts fine no problems with different programs being dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, anydvd, and intervideo dvdcopy 3, and nero. Not at the same time but got them all for testing purposes u know! Now they write well so the programs say and then eject saying complete. They play in my jvc dvd player in house but not most other lower brand names. I have reformatted and reloaded software thinking a virus or bug, but still no dice. I tryed updating firmware once and it worked for a bit then started again. I have not updated firmware again cause it does same thing maybe. I tryed on different brand dvd-r's. I am trying again tom. on a name brand dvd other than what i used to be able to use before no problems around the board. I just don't see how it is the dvds. I burn them as slow as programs allowed and then fast to see still no dice. Can anyone offer a bit of advice or help! I have used your site for many advice and never had a problem following the things you guys figured out too. This has really stumped me. Thanks

lilslider,

I know you've heard this already but I'm gonna ask anyway. What brand and format are your blank dvd's? Use this free proggy and let me know the manufacturer and ID http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ What brand and model dvdrw do you have?

I am running a few brands of dvds, but never mattered until last couple of weeks. I use sonys, memorex, rca, staples what i have now and all are dvd-r's. The RCA's are cheap brand from big lots... but was tired of wasteing money here of late u know? The dvd writer is a Samsung I believe model number TSS Tcorp cd/dvdw TS-H552B, and the other drive is dvd drive not burner and it is a Asus DVD-E616P3H. I mean you can't tell a difference in anything on my JVC Home Unit, but it is a new player, others are made within the last year but a Toshiba and a Apex Player I have and all say no disc or bad dvd when installed and play my older dvds. I even bought dvd cleaning disc to be sure. Now just stuck!

The sony's should be ok but I would be leary of all the others. Memorex, staples and companys like RCA and HP by their media from the lowest bidder and it is usually garbage and can vary in consistancy not only from batch to batch but even within one batch. I recommend trying a small bundle of good high quality media such as verbatum, taiyo yuden, or maxell. Make sure you have the latest f/w which is TS10 http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1911 Good luck and let me know the outcome. It would help if you could give me the manufacturers and ID's of your media.

Poor quality dyes used on low quality DVDs (eg. Memorex, Staples) will degrade over time and cause playback problems. Could this be your problem?

It is false economy to use poor quality blank media.

O.k. I went and got some maxell dvd 8x and tryed once before firmware update. They played in other players, but were blocky and stoping but able to continue thrue it seemed so firmware must be needed also. I went to site you directed me to and now I really feel like a newbie, for asking this, but how do you update the firmware from that site. I looked through the forum, but wanted to be safe according to the link and did not want to fry my drive in my new computer. I do so greatly your patience in readingh my request and all the input I have received. I do so appreciate the services of this site! Oscar moment there!!!!!! Anyway If you could direct me as to a link or how I proceed with the firmware upgrade, would greatly be appreciated as well. Thanks

I don't have that make of drive but updating f/w should be similiar to any other. Download the f/w update then open it. Make sure you don't have a dvd or cd in the drive and don't power down during the flash/update. Make sure you select the correct drive (if given a choice) and follow any other directions as you go. It's really very simple.

I've been having the same sort of problem and I'm a newbie too except my copies WON'T play on my JVC player which is about 3 years old but will play on a cheap magnavox combo player which is about a year old. Tried all sorts of media, updated my burner sonyDRX530. Everything decrypts fine, and burns fine but that JVC player keeps saying no disc. It's driving me nuts

The only model I could find close was a XV-F80. You can take a look. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=1078&Search=Sea... I would suggest trying a dvd+r booktyped dvd-rom (most compatable format). Your sony is capable of booktyping +r/rw media to dvd-rom. My brother has a high dollar JVC that is very finicky about playing dvd-r's or dvd+r's but seems to play dvd+r's booktyped dvd-rom ok. Make sure you use only good high quality dvd+r's.

Edit: disregard what I said about your sony being capable of booktyping (most sonys are) I double checked and yours doesn't apear to be capable.

You're welcome. The cheapo no name brands seem to read most everything. Take one of your backups with you when you're shopping and find one that will play em. Good luck.
