I'm thinking of buying a dl burner. I currently have a 4.7gb burner and I have used dvd decrypter and dvd shrink to make copies of discs. How does it work when you use a dl burner? Can you still use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter? Does dvd shrink recognize the new hardware and automatically turn the setups to 8.5gb burning or do I have to change some settings? OR, do I have to get other programs? thanks again.

How does a DL burner work Hmmmmmmm? let's see.Well it burns dual layers discs for one.And dual layer discs are 8.5 as to a single layer disc 4.3 gig.I have a dual layer liteon burner and just use single layer discs and it works fine.Basically you can burn anything from a cdr up to an dual layer disc.No settings have to be changed. If you want to burn with a DL disc just use DVD Decrypter for a 1 to 1 copy using just iso read and iso write with the file.
Is it crap or is it memorex?

Decrypter (ISO mode) and Shrink both handle DL. Shrink uses Nero, and Ecrypter. I personally use Intervideo Copy 3, CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD in the background. Both progs. burn DL great. No Problems. They burn one layer at a time. Any questions just ask!

Forgive me, I'm a newbie.
So if I have a DVD Movie I would like to backup, I would just put in a dual layer recordable media and backup with DVD Shrink. Hence no compression is needed.
Does this sound right?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks,

Yes you could use Shrink with DL DVD blank media but there really isnt any reason to. You could Rip the DVD to your hard drive in ISO mode with DVD Decryptor then turn around and burn the ISO with DVD Decryptor onto a DL DVD blank disc without sending it threw DVD Shrink. There would be no reason to compress the files down.
The only downside to this is the cost of DL blank media which is alot more expensive then the single layer DVDs. But if you can afford the DL blank media then thats the way to go. If you need to watch your money then single layer blank media is the way to go till the DL media goes down in price.

Hi,I'm a newbie
Can someone tell me the process, including software required to follow it,to burn(a full DVD movie into) a DL DVD disc with the Sony DW-D26A DVD Drive???
I've tried with the Sony NTI DVD Maker, but it only burns the first layer of data in DL DVD disc.
Thanks.

@arniebear, friend...good words. You got me hooked with decrypter Iso read/write and that's how I handle movies that are single layer and when I back-upsome of my backups...I simply place the disk in tray, open up decrypter use ISO read then place blank media in and switch the mode to iso write...set speed...booktype the media and it will do the rest.
Have a good night!

I am glad my friend that this works out for you, it has always produced good results for me, and until something better comes along this is my preferred method. Decrypter may not be updated anymore but there are still things in the program that will work well for awhile. As long as you have AnyDVD it will still rip. Have a good night.
