Did you hookup the stereo audio cable from the TV card audio out to the sound card line-in??????
Try plugging the speaker directly into the TV card audio out to see if you have any audio. If you do there is nothing wrong with the TV card audio out. You will need to contact your sound card tech support. The audio gets fed into the sound card from the TV card audio out which control the out to the speaker.
If you plugged the speaker directly into the TV card and you still do not get audio. You want to try uninstalling and move the TV card to a different PCI slot. After that reinstall everything to see if you have audio. If no audio, the TV card is bad !!
Good Luck... TV card do not need any special codec.

http://support.aver.com/faq.php?categoryid=32 where you can ask your question to the support group at AverMedia -- they much better informed then me on this product.
Looking at the link you gave .. for the one you bought.. does not clarify anything for me to help you further.

Looking at your card
You need a cble going from the audio output into your audio card.
Do you have your card hooked up threw the Coax cable (Tuner) or are you using the S-Video connection? If you used S-video your arent going to get any sound that way.

try hooking the speakers directly to your video capture card and see if you hear any sound then? If not you card probably isn't configured correctly. Look in your device manager and make sure there are little yellow or red dots by one of your audio or video devices.

The comments from the Aver Tech are possibly cracking the evidence of your problem..!
If presently, like you say Quote: my speakers are connected into the blue port on my onboard sound card(thats the only way i can hear sound)..
THIs is not right..
The Blue jack is LINE-IN ... your speakers should be on the Green. and your microphone on the Pink.
Now .. when you configure your sound AC97 .. you have the choice.. of 2 or 4 or 6 speakers --- If you are configured 6 speakers Blue becomes Bass Speakers.. Green becomes Front speakers..and Pink becomes Rear speakers.
I would definately follow his suggestion.. and configure the Ac97 on 2 speakers and put your speakers on Green.. and the output of your tuner audio on the Blue of the onboard sound.
The AC97 configuration is normally in your BIOS... look at the motherboard manufacturer booklet you received for further instructions on how to configure..! If you have'nt got it.. paste the motherboard Model number in here and W/we can try helping you out further.
Been away for a few days but you were in good hands with BBmayo.. ~~ winkz.... he is pointing you out to the same protocol..
Regards.....

This one you looking at is comparable to the one you have returned --- BUt BUT BUT... the problem seem to be in the installation of your AC97' sound that is located on your motherboard... !!
The technician at AverTV was right when he said that your AC97 Blue jack should not be used for your speakers! your speakers should connect to the Green (lime colored)and as I pointed out to you.. it looks like your configuration for the AC97 is not done properly in your BIOS. Your motherboard pamphlet should explain how to do this.. and it could have cleared up your trouble!
The problem when you get this new TV card will be there again unless you correct this.
There is a cable that must leave your TV Tuner card AUDIO OUT ---> and plug into your Line In (BLUE) of your AC97 sound input.
Edited after the server had triple posted this answer --- !! Removed the first 2 burps....

These AVer TV cards don't have audio out, it is internal 'DirectSound' audio through the PC audio system that you will hear.
In the old days, you needed a little jumper cable maybe 6" long with 2 x 3.5mm stereo (male) jacks, to connect audio-out to line-in on the soundboard. I have a hardware DVD board (on my old PentiumPro) that is like that.
With the AVerMedia though, it is done internally through Windows DirectSound.
But all sound output from your PC begins with 'Line-Out' L&R - and this jack is traditionally green!
Ca va bien, Jeanc1?
I know - the server is cranky sometimes :^(
Nothing wrong with that AVerMedia device, I have an AVer TV98 (BT878), still works great.
Buddy just didn't have it installed/configured right.
Bbmayo even dug up the latest driver for him, oh well...

Thanks The_OGS , glad you gave those links out... I dont have much time to devote for AFD ! .. The new TV tuner card he has ordered has a Audio OUT that must be connected -- hence the Onboard sound module may this time see the proper configuration he will bring in by putting the necessary jumper cables to the appropriate colored jacks.
Regards... The_OGs... Ciao for now !
