Im planning to build a new pc, and im looking to play BF2, now i want to know if its really worth going all the way and getting the ultra im not too big into gaming but i want to start, and my first game will be BF2, will the 6800 be good enough to play BF2? again im not a huge gamer so i dont want to spend 10000 of bucks on a video card.

The 6800 should be OK, i play with a 5700le and i can put some settings at high so a 6800 should play them at full.

Check this link out for some benchmarks:

If you have the money then a 3800+ or a 4000+ would be the better choice but the AMD64 3500+ should be OK.

LoL :^) It is a very powerful advanced CPU with integrated dual-channel memory controller; it will be plenty fast!
Actually, the following 2 are very similar:

AMD® Athlon? 64 - 3000 - 512K L2 Cache (Socket 939) [90nm Venice] Retail Box w/ Heatsink and Fan $189.99

AMD® Athlon? 64 - 3800 - 512K L2 Cache (Socket 939) [90nm Venice] Retail Box w/ Heatsink and Fan $404.99

But as you can see, the prices are not...
Most people would not be able to notice a difference in performance.
The 3000, if equipped with more memory and a better vidcard, would blow the 3800 away in gaming performance.
In a modern gaming rig, the CPU is generally not the bottleneck (certainly not, if it is an Athlon64 ;^)

you said the 3000 would blow away the 3800 in gaming, im planning to use this pc for gaming, is the 3500 better than the 3000 when it comes to games?

Im buying a video card and dont know what to get, what is better for gaming? is the 256 worth the 34 bucks

eVGA GeForce 6800 with 256MB DDR=290 CAN

eVGA GeForce 6800 with 128MB DDR=256 CAN

Well not exactly! You'll get me in trouble with inaccurate quotes like that ;^)
What I said was: between Memory, CPU and Vidcard, the CPU is almost the least important for good gaming performance. The CPU must be on a modern platform of course, and be adequate.
I was just saying, I could buy 2 3000's including taxes, for less than just the price of 1 3800.
That said, I would love the 3800 myself, LoL, but is it more than twice as fast? No. (But it's more than twice the money.)
If you're gonna get a 6800 make sure you get the 256MB.

Yes.
Are you looking at Socket939 with AGP or PCI eXpress?
If I was gonna upgrade, I would go PCI-X (but forget the SLI thing, who needs it?)
I went through that years ago, with 3dfx Monster Voodoo II accelerators! If you had 2 of 'em linked, you could get 1024x768.
I think 1 6800 (or 7800!) will give good performance, with 1/2 the noise, power demand, and heat of two big-dollar vidcards.
Or go ahead - spend $500 bucks on an 850watt triple-fan powersupply... LoL :^)

DUDE...look at this...BEST DEAL ON THE NET period. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131307

It beats the 6800's and is 256MB GDDR3...(hmm...look at the box closely...says GDDR2) but still...it will play Battlefield and anything else like no other.

Have you ever taken a look at ATI's cards. For the money right now you can get a radeon x800xt, or all in wonder x800xt, for about what you'd pay for the 6800 ultra, and have better performance on all but a few games. Even then the performance gap is marginal. I am not trying to create any ATI versus Nvidia wars, I have just had good experiences with the last two ATI cards I have had, and I have used both.

No offence dude but ...
WTF .... the X700 was released to compete with the 6600GT and couldn't quite cut it (link http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/174/) so ATI realesed the X800GT which does compete with the 6600GT & is a bit faster in some applications (link http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/241/) , the 6800, GT & ultra's will easly beat the X700 and are a little faster than the full 16 pixel pipe X800XL & are a little slower than the X850's ...link http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/196/

dkertesz go for the 6800GT or a full 16 pixel pipe X800 ....

That combo will be fine, as for a PSU something around 480w - 550w with plenty of amps on the 12v lines will do i.e Connect X ,OCZ pricey but worth it, have a look on tomshardware.com for reviews on psu's :)

edit: how much is the 6800GT ? post a link for it ;)

But dude...look at the price...6800GT's cost a shitload of cash... and you cant say this doesnt compete with the 6800's. That link is only one source...and it could very well be biased...why get a freakin' expensive ass card when you can get this baby for $120 and it plays Batlefield 2 PERFECTLY. And yes...I have noticed that the guy needs pci-express...

Fair point on the price ,but it still can't compete with the 6800's it just hasn't got the balls like the full X800's .... for an extra $34 i would personally go for this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150098 or this for $44 this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102574 which both out perform the X700

Yeah yeah there are lots of amazingly priced cards for pci-express...but my initial post was about AGP cards cause thats what i thought he had...and you gotta agree that an nVidia 6800 AGP card would be unbuyable...for pci-express...well its cheaper. But for AGP cards...the one i gave the link to wins hands down(price in mind)
