Is there a way of backing up my entire hd onto dvd-rw? Tried the XP backup and it would not let me. Thanks, Erick

Depending on how large your hard drive is, I doubt seriously that you could even make an image file of it, on one DVD.

Well, you gotta remember that the most a DVD will hold is about 4.35GB .. so, depending on the size of your hard drive .. well anyway, you can do the math .. it'll take about 23 discs to backup 100GB of info etc........

& what happens if that drive goes bye bye?? safe the data on disks besides on the hd so that if you lose 1 you'll still have the other.

ok but how can i put them on dics? what program? like I said, the backup using XP wont let me put them on disc. I have Nero but it wants me to select each file i want to backup and I have no idea. just wanna backup the whole hd.

If you just want to back up your main partition (OS), so that if you have a crash, you can get it back, get another hard drive, install it, and use Norton Ghost to back up the OS partition. Backing up, using Ghost, each week, or after a software install, has saved me more than one time. I simply ghosted back from the backed up partition.

Be careful with "Norton Ghost". It can use up a lot of hard drive space.
Critical/important files can be saved on RW disks. Keep that in mind.
An external HD should be fine for everything other than your OS. As long as you have the OS original disk and have saved all updates in the IT mode
Other than that, go RAID, for redundancy.
Oh heck, Just save your important info on a removable disc. You can always reformat & reload your OS & all that. Keep your data safe.

OK. I do not have Ghost anyways. What is "IT" and how do I go "Raid". Sorry for not understanding everything. I have was just forced to replace my hd and want to make sure I am all prepared for any emergency/crash. I do have my OS cd. Other than that I just want to be sure that everything is backedup on DVD-RW on a regular basis.

IT = Information Technologist. The person that in your company that is supposed to keep the computer's and programs running. Also, a MS way to just download updates without having to go through some of their BS.
RAID = Redundant Array of Independent Disks. An acronym. Use "Google" for RAID. You will get plenty of info on that set up.
