hey A/D'ers,

after succesfully flashing my lite on 169ps i contemplate on flashing my writer. since i have a dedicated reader and writer, would i benefit flashing the 3540? i havent used ne dual layer blanks yet just the standard 4gigers. would i need it if i was to "re-author" at 12x or faster speeds. ive been tempted to try it but dont want any coasters. because on the other hand there is the saying"if its not broken dont fix it".. any pointers are appreciated.

I have a NEC3520A and chose to flash mine with modified firmware.

The reason I did was that NEC official firmware does not allow bitsetting--the modified does. This allows me to booktype my +R media to DVD-ROM. Another reason I flashed with modified is that it allows better write strategies on certain media that the stock firmware does not. This would apply to your 3540 as well.

I haven't experienced any disadvantages by flashing with modified.

Even if you chose not to flash with modified firmware you ought to at least keep your official firmware current.
