hello i am a student and i really need to build my first PC to get away from using my parents pc or my dad's extremely slow 400mhz laptop. i only have a $700 budget.(excluding monitor) Please keep in mind that all of these parts are bought at the cheapest price possible.(not online)

I am using it for word processing, burning Cd's and playing a bit of games. (It would be great if it could burn DVDs too)

Any suggestions or ideas?

Well anyways here's my rough plan, please feel free to make changes.

AMD 64 3200 (939)+
ASUS A8V-DLX
1024 DDR400 PC3200
160 GB Hard Drive
LG 4163B 16x DVD+/-RW
ATI Radeon 9550 256MB
600W Subwoofer
450 Watt case w/ dual fan
Opt. Mouse
keyboard

I was looking over at newegg for myself and found a gigabyte mobo for 81.99. It has support for pci express and sata drives. Plus lan connection. About the only thing it dont have is firewire port and according to the manual it even comes with overclocking utility.

I would also recommend the clawhammer. Its only 239.00 over at newegg. Its a 3500 clawhammer with a 1000 fsb which matches the board nice. Plus it has a 512 cache. Or you could go another hundred and get the claw with a mb l2 cache. Just my opinion. I found some of this info in here by asking and by looking at newegg.

Just if you buy a case over there...espicially a cheap one. Get your own psu. I have noticed on all the reviews for most that the psu's were garbage.

Hope this helps

Edit...you mentioned a sub and speakers? I got a pair of logitech 5.1 speakers with sub at 80 watts. Boy do these pound. And since they are obsolete they were only 80 at circuit city. Look for x-530 logitech and you cant go wrong. Ask my neighbor who came over at 4 am screaming turn it down and then he seen the tiny little speakers...he was shocked..he he

Good luck on the build
