Have downloaded and tried this software with no luck whatsoever. It appears to identify the DVD files on the disc quite well. But then where exactly does it go from there? There is no 'options' tab and therefore no configuration is possible. When I try to copy the disc to a blank DVD all I get is the message 'the parameter is incorrect'. Also when opening the burner tab the message appears 'no burner plug-in installed'. Obviously it recognises nothing else on your computer. The guides are non-existant and fails when going to the website - presumably it doesn't exist? It's not clear at all whether it removes the macrovision also. Maybe others will have different experiences, but it seems to me that this software tries to run before it can walk. The result - a complete bodge job:-

AnyDVD, DVD Shrink and DVD Decryter ... need I say more?
ShrinkTo5 1.5 is a brand new program that was refused by download.com because they break download.com rules ... Maybe it's the driver thing ?
Give it a couple updates before you give it a try

Hi Discmania,
I downloaded this s/w just for the hell of it (free). It's running as I type and seems to be working fine although I used a folder from my hdd from dvdd as the sorce and am useing a new empty folder on my hdd as the target. It's pretty generic. The sorce folder size is 6.94 gb. I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Well it worked and thats all I can say good. The picture is grainy and pixelated. It would probably be ok on a smaller sorce folder or movie only. 6.94 gb is pretty big even for DVD Shrink (although dvd-rb/cce handled it fine and had very little noticable video quality loss). The final folder size is 4.22 gb and it took 23:32 to transcode. I might play with it some more strictly for testing and comparison purposes.

I tried it again. It does not rip from a disc to HD - just freezes after less than a minute. The 'preview' screen also does not work. Maybe it should be renamed 'Shrink to Nothing'. If you managed to shrink a file already on your HD well done but I don't think that's what it was really designed for. Needless to say I've uninstalled it permanently and just hope I've not gotten a nice little trojan on my system as an extra token.

I installed 'Shrinkto5' and attempted to make a copy of 'Face Off'.
The first thing it told me was that the movie was encrypted and it couldn't open it. After checking the makers website it appears that I needed 'Machinist.dll. to enable it to decrypt the movie.
I wandered off and acquired the needed .dll and and pasted it into Shrinkto5's installation folder.
This time the prog worked fine and transcoded the whole movie into a 3.19Gb folder.
Unfortunately, things didn't go so well when I tried to play it in PowerDVD. It would run as far as the menu but would shut down as soon as I selected play.
I looked on other websites to see if others had had any problems and it seems that compatability issues are commonplace.
I read a review somewhere that when a Shrinkto5 transcoded movie was burned to a dvd it wouldn't play on many dvd players.
In my opinion this program is not worth the hassle at the moment until they get all the bugs sorted out.
