I purchased an external drive before noticing that my laptop only has USB 1.1 ports. I went ahead and purchased a USB 2.0 PCI card so I can use my dvd-rw drive.

When I try to burn anything, my buffer level jumps all over the place (15-90%) and burns no higher than 1x. My burner is an 8x, so you can see why this would be alarming.

I've done everything I can, but I haven't had any luck improving speeds. I honestly am at a loss for what to do. I can still burn discs, but it takes almost an hour.
