just find out the wattage on the power supply and get either the same or slightly better. All power supplys fit to most cases and your should work just fine theres no need to buy the exact same one.

so by slightly better do u mean a little more wattage?

the one that came with the computer is a 250 watt so what wattage would be the best to buy?

250 watt:
How many optical drives/fans/blowers/video card/lights/bells + whistles you got on that emachine pc?

My HP pc came with only a 275 watt ps. Adding the extra 200 gig HD and Dvd-rom drive, I replaced it with a 400 watt antec smart power 2.0. True 400 watts.
I'm very satisfied with it.The dimensions were larger than my hp ps,so I had to switch my benq burner and lite-on dvd-rom around to accommodate it.

I went through 3 ps's in my last pc in 4 months. These were cheapie power supplies.

250 watts will be fine. I had a Dell with a stock 250 watt running 2 DVD drives, a p4 2.4ghz, hard drive, floppy, 9800PRO, audigy 2, 56k modem, 4 sticks of RAM, and whatever else. I upped it to a 350watt psu for safety. 325 watts was the max it could possibly use with all those whistles.

BTW, that 350watt power supply didn't fit because DELL uses different size power supplies and different size motherboards in case you ever need to replace anything. I still used it, but it just didn't fit in properly.

Custom Built PC
Case with 7 fans, 480w PSU, Asus K8VSE Deluxe Socket MB, Athlon 64 3400+ Overclocked to 2.53ghz, 1GB PC3200 Corsair DDR RAM @ 422mhz, 9800PRO Overclocked (400/356), Audigy 2 Sound Blaster, 2 80GB Hard Drives, Firewire, and many more irrelevant toys.

the original power supply is a 250watt. would it be better to buy a 300watt or a 250

Is there any other variables i need to know when choosing a power supply?

i plan on adding another hard drive and 1 or 2 more fans would 300watt be a good choice (compared to 250Watt)? or would it be bad for it?

or do u reccomend i go even higher in wattage?

is the more wattage the better or can it olny handle so much?

Sorry im kinda stupid when it comes to computer parts :(
