How do you use alcohol 120 to make back up games of ps2. I have a dvd burner and alcohol 120, what else do I need to do? From start to finish. Help.

Try my method. It's worked everytime. However, I don't use Alcohol at all.

You can't just do an image creation with DVD Decrypter, then turn around an burn it. It's not going to work on all games. You have to clean out the "dud" space that the original image has, then rebuild the image, then you use DVD Decrypter to burn the new image to disc.
An original PS2 game disc has blank spaces on it. Imagine a record album with songs on every other track. When you do just a straight image creation, then a reburn of that image, the blank space is put close to the inner ring of the disc, and the software is pushed to the outter portion of the disc.
Below is how I create my games, and I have yet to see it fail.

** DVD Decrypter to create initial image.
** ISOBuster to extract the files of the image (doing away with the dud space.
** CD/DVD Gen to create the necessary files for rebuilding the image.
** IML to ISO to put the files together to create the final image.
** DVD Decrypter to burn the final image.

Here are the tools you need. You can thank me later.

As far as links to the programs, there should be some time left on the uploads I have provided. Here you go.

IML2ISO (Windows XP Version)
http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=33TDLYOKUMN8A0R6KPIKIKXYIC

IML2ISO (Windows 98, ME, 2000 version)
http://www.sksapps.com/mis/IML2ISO.rar

CD/DVD Generator 1.20 with patch file.
http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0G63XW1HUIQLK2X0KPM9CEKPHB
** If you forget to patch this program after you install it, it will not work correctly, and you will create coasters. **
** The best way to install this program is to unzip all files to a new folder, then run the setup. Afterwards, go back and double click on the file with the word "patch" in it. It will be found in a separate folder inside the folder you unzipped the program to. Double click the patch file, and the patcher opens up. Click the three dots (...), and browse to the C:\Program Files\CD_DVD-ROM Generator 1.20 folder. Then select the cddvdgen file.

ISOBUSTER:
http://s51.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2UKGK0MONBK7R0CUFEF9LSOZLG

You can always find the same files here: http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=mis.html

** My Instructions **

1. Create the image with DVD Decryptor.
2. Drag the image into ISOBuster (the iso file).
3. Write down the names you see.
4. Now, make a new folder called "iso-rebuilt."
5. Press Cntrl A in ISOBuster to highlight all files.
6. Right click and "extract to" the "iso-rebuilt" folder.
7. When that is done, close ISOBuster.
8. Open the program CD/DVD ROM Generator.
A. Click "new project."
B. Select DVD.
9. Looking at your "iso-rebuilt" folder, drag each file over into
the CD/DVD Rom Generator in the order in which you wrote them
down earlier.
10. Click the "volume" button at the top.
11. For the Disc name, put in Slus, then the number
NOTE: the number is found on one of the file names.
12. For Producer, put in Playstation
13. Click the Record button.
14. You get two errors, this is correct.
15. Click File/Export IML, dump them to your desktop.
16. When this is done, close the program.
17. Open up gdvd4-iml2iso, and have it open the first .iml file
by clicking the ... at the end of the iml box name.
18. Click the Start button on the program.
19. It is now building you a new image of the game.
20. Once done, close that program, open up DVD Decrypter, and have
it burn the new image. From there, you can use DVD Decrypter
to create another image of this burned cd to make "copies" for
your friends without having to go through all of the above
steps over again. This only needs to be done for each new
game title.

** Special Notes **
I have the new slim-line PS2.
I use -R blank DVDs
I'm also using Swap Magic 3.6 with a new lid installed on my PS2.

Thank you for all the tips, but I don't know where to get the image from. Do I import it from gdvd4-iml2iso or do I burn the game again.

1. Create the initial image from the retail game disc using DVD Decrypter.
A. Insert your game disc into your computer.
B. Open DVD Decrypter.
C. Click Mode/ISO/Read, or just Press R
D. Take note of the image name it provides for you, and the
location to where it will save it.
E. Press the button at the bottom so it can create the 1st
image of the game.
2. Open that image up in ISOBuster.
A. This is a tiny folder icon at the very top of ISOBuster,
locate that icon.
B. Click that icon, and double click the image file that
DVD Decrypter created for you.
3. Write down all of the names you see in the order you see them.
4. Drop the window down for a moment, and open MY Computer.
5. Open the C Drive.
6. Create a new folder called "isocleaned."
NOTE: You will use this folder each time for each new game
you rip. So remember to empty this folder after you
have completed all of the below steps.
7. Minimize that window (drop it down)
8. Return to ISOBuster.
9. Press Cntrl-A to highlight all of the files.
10. Right click any one of them, and select "extract."
11. Extract the files to the c:\isocleaned folder.
12. Once that is done, close ISOBuster.
13. Open up CD-DVD Gen 1.20.
14. Select New Project.
15. Select DVD.
16. Position this window and the ISOCleaned folder side by side.
17. Looking at the ISOCleaned folder and your list of written file
names, drag and drop, in order, one file at a time into the
CD DVD Gen program window.
18. Once you have all of the files there, click the Volume button.
19. Put in SLUS in the first box.
20. In the 2nd box, put in the number found next Slus file of the
game. (you've written this down, so look at your list.)
For the Producer Name, put in this: PLAYSTATION
NOTE: Put all of the numbers in, leaving out the decimal point.
21. Click Record.
22. You get 2 errors - this is correct.
23. Click File/Export IML, and extract them to your desktop or say
a new folder called "IMLFiles." You will have to give this
series of IML files that will be created, a name. So, I suggest
using part of the game's name.
24. Once this is done, close CDDVD Gen.
25. Now, you have pieces of a puzzle to put together to create a
new ISO file. It's time to open IML2ISO.
26. Under the IML File box where it says "test.iml", click the
button to the extreme right that has 3 dots on it.
27. Browse to your desktop folder, and select the first .IML file.
OR
Browse to the new folder you might have created when using
CDDVD gen, and open up the first .iml file.
NOTE: CDdvd gen created a series of IML files, numbering each
one. You are to select the one with the lowest number,
or no number at all.
28. Click start, and sit back and wait. A new image is being
created, and will show up on your desktop.
29. Once the new image is created, close IML2ISO.
30. Right click your new image file, and select "burn with DVD
Decrypter."
or...
Open DVD Decrypter, press W, and have it open the new ISO for
you, then click button at the bottom to burn the new image to
a blank disc.

** This was revised by me, Digital9x ** I cleaned up the steps at the end to make this easier to understand.

Once you have tested your copy, open up the ISOClean folder, and delete all of those files. Also, delete both the original and new ISO created. Secondly, delete all of the IML files. Doing this will regain your hard-drive space.

Glad to be of help,

Digital9x

digital9x,
why do you keep posting this?
You are making it much harder for a newbie than it needs
to be.
most games do not have to be rebuilt at all
i use DVD Decrypter and have only had to rebuild
about 3-4 games out of many.

here is how to use your program
Alcohol 120%

1. Start Alcohol 120%
2. Select the Copy Wizard option
3. Select the drive that will read the disc & your read speed
i suggest a speed no higher than 4X
4. Deselect the copy current disc on the fly option
5. For data type select which console the game is for PS1/ PS2 then press Next
6. Select your image location and name it then press Next
7. Select the drive that will write the disc and write Speed
8. Look through any other options andchange if needed
9. Make sure that the data type selected is the same as selected above
10. Press Start to begin

Why do I keep posting it? Because, if they master this, then they will have no headaches, coasters, or wasted money down the road. There a tremendous image file size difference with my method compared to just doing a rip and burn.
Many folks think that just because their game loads up and starts playing when having done a rip and burn, that all is well. But many games will quit or get hung during the deeper levels of the game.
Games like Batman Begins, Tekken 5, Juiced, Spider Man 2, NBA 2006, and more will either just show a loading graphic, or will have show a black screen.
Most of these "newbies" are teenagers that don't have lots of money to spend on CDs turned into coasters. So, I just go straight to the punch and ensure the game is duplicated flawlessly the first go around. Sometimes taking a shorter path can lead to many unwanted pot holes, while the longer route can provide a more scenic and pleasurable drive.

Your detailed posting is great. I have seen several games larger than the capcity of a single layer dvd. Unfortunately I am not able to copy GranTurismo using the procedure you described. The recompiled game displays copyright page then blank. Is this what you refer to as "costers"? A question I have is your instruction says put SLUS in first box in CD DVD Gen program, but the actual file name is SCUS, do you really mean SLUS? I tried both ways and neither worked. Any additional insight on the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanx digital9x but it would be nice to know if you are going to have to spend any cash to receive the programs you have stated. when you have already spent alot of cash. it would be nice to get free programs that will work first before investing in something that might not work. don't get me wrong i would not mind paying if i knew that it was going to work. anyone else out there who can help with backing up ps2 games.
digital i liked the way you broke it down though. thanx.

Can someone please tell me where I can get a copy of CD/DVD Gen v1.20, I've looked everywhere and can't find a copy

I got version 1.5, and I tried to follow digital9x's intructions but half of what he said should happen didnt happen for example;
Quote:
22. You get 2 errors - this is correct.
I got ONE error and that was AFTER trying to export the iml's not before. It also says that the CD/DVD Gen program should have numbered the IML files, it didn't so I dont know what to do, and ISL2IMO, the only program called that, that i could obtain was some random exe that opens a DOS Prompt box for like 1 millisecond....I am sooo damn confused...all I need to know is how to rip a PS2 game to DVD so that I can keep a copy for back up

Digital 9x is inactive, I believe a polite way of saying banned.
5) Click the record button at the top right and save it
to your C drive again. Name the file as f4.IML. You'll get 2 errors
but just hit ok and the recording window will load. If you don't then you might be missing the wnaspi32.dll. Nero should have this if you need it. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/WNASPI32.DLL.html Also you don't have to go thru all this BS to rebuild. Just use Nero and Isobuster: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#rebuilding

Anyone know what to do when CD DVD Gen won't generate the IML Files because of this error message: "...less 5000 sector"?

btw,

I usually burn by, imaging it with DVD Decrypter then burn with Alcohol 120.

So far lucky, no game I tried had dummy files.

Just use Nero and Isobuster to rebuild: With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#rebuilding

Hey Tokijin.

This link you posted: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#rebuilding

says "Page not found"

"Just use Nero and Isobuster to rebuild: With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's)"

So after rebuilding with IsoBuster, burn it with Nero, right?
