Well guys ive used DVD Decrypter and burnt 15 ps2 games for backups one after another and non worked so i tried Alcohol 120 and hey presto that did it. Now i have to admit the dvd media where mitsubishi black diamond -r discs which arnt the best of quality i know but i tried the same on Alcohol 120 and it worked. So from now on 120 will be used for my backups flawless everytime. I dont know why DVD Decrypter didnt work usually it does but alcohol seemed faster to make the image and faster to burn the image so hell theres no contest.
Anyway thats my two pennith worth
bye

I`m so frustrated with life - it aint turned out like it outta

Well Alcohol 120% is an excellent all around burning program. It's probably my personal favorite. I use DVD Decrypter for DVD burning purposes. It's picky when ripping a scratched game to my HD, so that's when Alcohol 120% comes off the bench for the winning score. It can create an image from ANYTHING. Most likely the cheap media was the cause of your burning issues, not DVD Decrypter. Maybe that particular media isn't very compatible with your burner. I would advise getting some better media. Check the media ID on those Black Diamond DVD-R's. Compare it to what you see here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm To check the media ID open DVD Decrypter. Insert your disc. Then check and see what it says under Manufacturer ID.

If it's over 2gb, you won't be able to use Nero to rebuild. You will have to use another process like ExPERT (Gnie's Rebuilding Tool) or the CD/DVD Gen, IML2ISO/Apache process.

@Jamaal10:

The CD/DVD Gen doesn't really appeal to as it looks like it takes forever and there's too many programs involved... What is that ExPERT one?

So far i managed to copy a few games straight after reading it to the HDD, but i have a few (True Crime NY, Call of Duty 2, NFS Most Wanted) that run and load, but are unplayable (image stops every 2 sec. etc). I'm using decent media (Verbatim), burnt @ 1x, so i gathered i need to rebuild them.

ExPERT is just one program that does the same thing as the CD/DVD Gen method. It is also very easy to follow and doesn't take that long.

You can get it here: http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar

Here are the instructions for it:

Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work.

1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.

Make sure you do it in that order.

If you need more in depth instructions, you can get them from www.ps2nfo.com

I used the ExPERT method, following the instructions religiously, but after burning them with DVD Decrypter @ 1x, i got coasters...
I'm trying to do NFS Most Wanted, Call of Duty 2 and True Crime NY.
I can't seem to get it...

I downloaded Tekken 5 and Pro Evo 5, burned them straight onto a crap media DVD-R(Tuff Disk 4x), and they play flawlessly. But with the other ones, using Good Media DVD-R(Verbatim 8x, cost me a bomb!), all i get is coasters... Another thing is that the files are only about 5Mb smaller than the original ones. Aren't they supposed to be much smaller?
Do we have to do anything manually? According to the ExPERT manual, i'm not doing anything wrong... Or am i? Makes no sense...

Well all those games have caused people trouble. Are you using Swap Magic or do you have a modchip? I have successfully booted backups of all three of those games. I didn't download them however, I made backups of originals for NFSMW and Call of Duty 2. I did download TCSONY. Hit up blockbuster if you can't get downloaded iso's to burn right. Try burning at 4x. Sometimes games are a lot smaller after you rebuild them, but not always. I rebuild NHL 2006, and the game went from like 4.15GB's to 1.50GB's. Other games I rebuilt ended up about the same size as the original iso like NASCAR 2006 and NBA Live 2006. The main purpose of rebuilding games is to make them run smoother, not necessarily reduce their size.

@ Tokijin:

I have Swap Magic 3.6 on a V5 PS2 w/Flip top.
So, you think these games are headaches, all were downloaded apart from NFSMW which i ripped using DVD Decrypter.

What bugs me really, is that on the sh@te media i actually get to run the games, altough they don't run right. They load up to the menu then they just don't go any further... With NFSMW i actually get to play but it kinda loads up every bit of the road...
At first i thought it was a media prob but with the good stuff all i get is 'Not a PS2 disk'.
I was jusk thinking about having a go at Alcohol 120%, since you had good results on stuborn games... But, will i have any luck with it? Is there an Alcohol tutorial on PS2 games?(settingswise)

Any idea?

Thanks.

Alcohol 120% is an excellent program. The only reason I don't use it for burning PS2 DVD games, is that DVD Decrypter works great for me.

To create an image with Alcohol 120%:

1.Insert your game.

2. Open Alcohol 120%.

3. Click Image Making Wizard, check ignore read errors. You can leave the "Seperate image Every" box alone. Click Next. Select a destination for your image. Then click start. Once it's done, You will end up with a mds and a mdf file.

To burn the image:

1.Insert your blank DVD-R.

2. Open Alcohol 120%. Go to File--> Open. Browse to where your mds and mdf file were saved. Double click the mdf file. Once it's opem in Alcohol 120% right click the mdf file and click Image Burning Wizard. Click Next.

3. Select your recorder. Set the read speed to 1/2 what ever the max write speed of your DVD-R is. I.E. 4x on an 8x DVD-R. Click next. That should work. Good Luck.

Set the Datatype to PS2.
There's no datatype setting here! Done everything as you said (as i always done really)... When i start the wizard i follow all of them steps but then i can't set the datatype. I deleted all images i had in me HD and i'm starting from scratch again.

Made an image of MotoGp3 using Alcohol (ver 1.9.5 (build 3105))

Got the MDS/MDF files.

Rebuilt it using ExPERT following the steps on here:
http://www.ps2nfo.com/modules/Downloads/userfile.php?id=562

It reduced it from 3.0GB to 1.50GB.
Then burnt it using Alcohol @ 2x.

Like the other ones, it goes up to the menu and then it just goes black.

Merry Christmas mate, thanks.

Miggs

Right, i can adjust the datatype on a normal cd but i can't do it on a DVD! How come?
When i pick a cd image then press 'next', there is a datatype drop down list, but as soon as i pick a MDF file (DVD) then press 'next' there's no drop down menu there! Anyone knows what is going on here?

Now i should know why they aren't working, i'm supposed to copy them in RAW DAO, but the only method i get is DVD DAO...

Does this make any sense?

Well I'm giving the process a go with Alcohol 120% right now, I'll let you know how it goes. Your right, there's no data type. Then it doesn't matter. The problem isn't the burning software. Does your burner work fine with other things like movies?

That eliminates your burner as a problem. Maybe Verbatim media just isn't compatible with your burner. This is rare, but it has happened before. I hate to have you spend more money on media, but maybe pick up some Sony DVD-R's. If you get em at Wal-Mart, you can always take them back if they don't work.

Wal-Mart? I'm more the Maplin's type o'guy... LOL, I'm from uk. Dunno... I don't think there's nothing wrong with my Verb's mate, i mean, i can do films without any sort of probs... And how come i managed to burn Tekken 5 and Pro Evo 5? I done those without even rebuilding them.

I just had another thought tough. When i rebuild them with ExPERT i use only one plug-in:Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi.
Has this got anyhting to do with it, i wonder? Will i need a different plug-in to every game?

I don't think that's the issue. I think it might be a compatiblility issue with Verbatim's and your burner. I though Pro Evo 5 and Tekken 5 froze after loading. Try some different media.

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):

That is one mighty link mate! Seems like Pretense knows his things... As for Alkohol's page: It's magical stuff! If you tell me how to post a photo here (i.e. PM me) i'll do a disk quality thing so i can show you what i'm using... With that you should be able to give us an idea on how to crack this prob.

Thanks

Well posting a photo is easy. You just upload it to a photo server like imageshack.com or photobucket and then follow the directions above the reply box for posting a photo. You know, the stuff in brackets.

Oh, i see now... Here goes then:

This three are failed burns from NFSMW. None of them worked.

This is the Tuff Disk result:

Then the Maxell:

Then, the worst of them all, the Verbatim's:

What do you think of this? The Tuff Disk is the one that you can actually play the game but it loads up every bit of the track as you're playing story mode. Works fine on quick race.

Oh besides the point, but very important, i'm gonna hang around for a wile at AD, how do i get a sig?

Thanks Tokijin.
