H'mmm Norton AV 2005 you say. That could be the problem. It's caused complications with different programs. Try shutting it down and see if that helps. Btw, Norton AV 2005 is awful. It slows your computer to a crawl and doesn't really protect you from much. There are several AV's that are better like Trend Micro PC-Cillin, Mcafee, AVG, or Bit Defender, just to name a few.

You're killing me here! Norton 2K5 is sh@te? I thought it was the dogs! The thing is, i always get a sucessful burn...
The ripping is done by the book. The burning is done by the book. Let's grab a game and analize this procedure. I have NFSMW in front of me.
Now, Alkohol says NFSMW is a straight burn. But i tried it and it's unplayable (just as before.) In his guide he also uses +R media. Going by his words:
Quote: Notice i burned it at 4X and it automatically changed the book type to DVD ROM. Yep, tha's why i prefer DVD+R only because now my PS2 console will play this baby aka NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED flawlessly
i should use +R media, or not?
So far all i know is that regardless of the media i'm using, the result is the same.

@permiggs
Need For Speed MOST WANTED is only 3.44GB (NTSC, US version), so you don't need to rebuild this baby -- I just made a few backups a few days ago. In addition, I've been playing my backup copy only and so far it loads/plays flawlessly.
However, I'm not sure about the PAL version. You need to insert it into your dvd burner and check on the properties to see how big is the files/gb. If it's over 4.5GB, then you may need to rebuild, but if it's 4.5GB or under, then just do a straight rip and burn it back on.
Yes.... that's what I said, and that's why I prefer DVD+R (genuine Yuden, Maxell (High Grade by Hitachi, mij) and Verbs "advanced azo") over any DVD-R. With "book typing" your DVD+R into DVD-ROM, your PS2 console will play them flawlessly. Yes.... DVD-ROM is the best, safest and or the "universal" dvd format. Like I said many times before, all original PS2 games and DVD movies are pressed as DVD-ROM, therefore your PS2 console can play any "original" PS2 games flawlessly. The reason your PS2 can play any original dvd movies is because it was pressed as DVD-ROM format as well.
Keep us posted on your results.

The PAL version is 3.44Gb as well.
So by that, (and as a general idea) a PS2 game should be burned into a DVD+R...
Well, all i'm using is DVD-R... I thought those were the type of disk you generally used to burn PS2 games... That does change the picture a little bit... Let me just quickly nip into my local maplin's...

@permiggs
DVD-R should be fine, don't worry about it. However, sometimes even with DVD-R, the newer ones are giving any PS2 a headaches too. My nephew's got a PS2 version 5 and he used to only burned on DVD-R media, but some of these latest DVD-R are making his PS2 going crazy. So I told him to get Taiyo Yuden and Maxell DVD+R "mij" and book type them into DVD-ROM. Now his PS2 console is playing all of his backups like new/original PS2 games.
Honestly, I'm a DVD+R person and I can tell you that DVD+R is more advanced, and once you've successfully "book typed" them as DVD-ROM, then your PS2 console will love them endlessly. Any PS2 consoles will play any high quality DVD+Rs if "book typing" it into DVD-ROM -- it will fools your PS2 console, making it thinks that your backup copy is the "original pressed DVD-ROM PS2 game".
What's your burner/model/firmware? Let me know and I'll what I can do to help you alright.

Trust me on this, you can even asked Doc aka Kivory that DVD+R "book typing" them into DVD-ROM is the best way to go. I've been burning and using the YUDEN000T02 (8X DVD+R Taiyo Yuden) and Maxell 8X DVD+R (High Grade by Hitachi, made in japan) for all of my PS2 backups and I've never experienced any freezing at all.
According to my knowledge DVD-ROM is the best format for all PS2 games, even dvd movies as well. With that being said, if you can "book type" and burned your DVD+R into DVD-ROM, then your PS2 should be fine.

Damn Permiggs your due for a break on these things. I hope those Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's solve the problem. I think there is a good chance they will. I personally use DVD-R's, but DVD+R's are undeniably of better quality. You have a v.7 PS2, so theoretically DVD-R and DVD+R's should both play fine.

This is a scan done on a DVD+R i bought this morning (yes Tokijin, i was out of bed at 6.30). I used Alkohol's method, used very good media, i spent quite a bit on these babies.
But... The result is still the same... Can't understand...
My perseverence is still intact, i WILL crack this! (Im gonna give myself an ulcera...)
Jesus man... i can't figure out what might be the problem...
Just to add...
Just burnt Moto GP 4 sucessfuly on one of those...

Eh don't sweat it I am a vampire myself. Most of my posts are in the dead of the early morning. I like's to sleep in lol. This is one of the more stubborn cases I've come across recently. I don't see anything out of the ordinary in those scans. Is your flip top off center or anything like that?

I know they're not perfect, i had to DIY the case myself when it came in... But no, it's fine, apart from the annoying noise it makes, it's perfect...(i just stick something on top and it's fine...)
Managed to get Moto Gp 4 done so that means there's nothing wrong with my setup... It's just that game...
I only bought 5 of those +R's as well, but they are really class i must admit.
Got these at Maplin's, went looking for a good quality DVD+R, found these. They're the same as the -R's i got indoors (advanced azo) but with a different ID... Go figure!

So NFSMW is the only can you can't get working? If that's the case, I'd rent it and copy it. That's what I did with my copy. I burned it to TYG02 at 4x and it plays perfectly.

@permiggs
You have Swap Magic and a Flip Top right? If so... then it looks like you screwed your screws too tight (flip up-side-down, now try to loosen them a little), and you need to loosen up a little bit on that *small screw that holds the white round hub ring* underneath your Flip Top.
Honestly, I really don't know what else to suggest here. Seriously, NFSMW is just a straight up ripped and burned, both of my backups plays beautifully without no glitches on my v9 PS2.
Hopefully you'll resolve your issues in due time, buddy. Happy New Year!!

Eh? What? Where? What small screw?
http://www.ultimateconsoleguides.com/Installation.htm
These are the instruction i followed to do the install...
I'll have to keep trying, I just burnt Ace Combat - Squadron Leader earlier this morning and it works fine as well!
Well, the ones i tried to burn are:
NFSMW (Several attempts, different media, burning processes, all skip... Gutted.),
GTASA (The same, the game loads fine, browse the menu etc, when you try to play it skips... Not too bothered about that one - I have the original. ;)
TCSONY (Same as GTASA - gutted)
Moto GP 3 (Same as above - Again it was a 'setup experience', i have the original)
Moto Gp 4, Tekken 5 and Pro Evo 5 and Ace Combat are all good.
So, to all of you guys:
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I need help, I think. I'm runnin' low on dvd's, and won't be getting any more for a few days, but by then I have to return the game I'm borrowing.
I used Expert 1.03 to change up/resize Combat Elite: World War II Paratroopers for the PS2. (Yeah, I know it's not the greatest game in the world, but i'm collectin' them war games regardless).
It went from about 3.6 gigs, to 10MB after Ex' made the new ISO.
What the heck, 10MB? I don't want to risk burning that. Is that right? Could it be right? I don't have MS Word, so I can't see the full instructions file (wordpad won't convert the images). I used the method posted on page 1 (extract/extract/rebuild/rebuild in the right order). I also tried CD/DVD Generator 1.05 (with patch), and it failed during the last process. (Asapi failure message, no other error messages)

hello
whats the reason for you trying to reduce the iso in size?
just leave it as it is,or are you short on space?
10 mb is not right btw,the rebuilt image should be close to 2gb
(it has no dummy files,it has hidden data)
if you insist on reducing the size, juts use isobuster, and extract all the files/folders (there are only 3),then see what size it adds up to then.
then rebuild the image after

I totally forgot to mention why. >,< My bad.
I burned it already, a straight burn, ripped from alchy' 120, burned using alchy'.
The game doesn't load up. My DVD media are Ritek something somethings. I don't recall the details, but they (this week) have worked fine for about 15 games, and died with 4 (including this'n)- the other two being The PAL (mulit zone 5) Tombraider Legends, Import Dirge of Cerberus, and the other being Genji: Dawn of the Samurai. Using a swap magic boot, it confirms the game (blue background)- then does nothing for combat elite. Tomb' and Genji' go to black screen of death. Dirge loads the squeenix logo, then fades to black death screen.
Looked up the rebuilding issue that tries to remove dummy data (btw, they ever figure out how to backup gran turismo 4??). Figured that would help, regardless if absolutely required or not.

I burned the last 18 or 19 from ISO images at 2x. Max write speed is 8x on the drive I have. All the other backups work like a charm. No hitches, no noticable skips, even under high load (ran Dynasty Warriors 5 through the gamut, and a few RPG's ((random battles load fast))).

My backup of 24 is under 4.3GB's. I think one of the early releases that was nuked was Dual Layer, but the newer ones were DVD-5 or single layer.
