pioneer dvd-109 giving me problems

When I get the drive it loved my ritek media, now it either will (using clonedvd2) it will go through the setup/erasing part and quit or it will every other time burn to a 97% completion and then error.

I have updated the firmware to rev. 1.57 and if i remember correctly that is when this actually started. IT will read my disks fine to be copied, but it will not do a complete burn. I was going to buy some dual layer disks but i do not want to make some real expensive coasters. anyone got any sugestions???
