i was wondering about the cpu diode temp of a barton core 2800 should be. i oc'ed mine from 2.08 to 2.13 and the cpu diode read a maximum temp of 88c, but the comp was running fine, and the mobo didn't trip the computer of for over heating. i was wonderin cause to me the temp seems high. right now it's for the most part at a low load, the cpu temp from under it is 51c and the cpu diode temp is 68c. anyways, i was just wondering what the specs were for the cpu and such, and if my compy will be safe (i'm hopin that the overheating safty works, which it should)
i'm 6 minutes into a stress test at stock settings
it's running just as hot as it did before, which leads me to belive, it's prefectly safe running when it peaks out at 60c

88c is getting a bit too hot for an amd.
what cooling are you using?

hello sagara, i have and xp 2800 o´c to 2.4ghz im getting 47-50c now in the summer because i dont have ac in my apartment.

but 88 C is above the safe limit of 85c according to amd. are you reading those temps from a application run in window or the bios of your mobo (later is more accurate).

but first:

1-what cooling are u using?
2-thermal compound?
3-mobo model

i dont think is really runnig stable at 88 C° but could happen

that 88c is from the cpu diode. the reading at 88c from the socket was about 65c. the confusion is people i guess aren't used to the readings from the diode, which is way higher than the socket temp. oh well, i cleaned my heatsink, and now running at 2.15ghz at 1.7v it idles at 45c and about 61-63 at full load
i'm using the a7n8x deluxe v2 and as for the thermal compound, i don't know, since my dad's friend built it, and he's rather good at building them. umm what else..oh, i have the stock heatsink and fan, the case is an antec soho server case, with 2 exhaust fans in the back, and 1 intake on the front. the psu has 3 fans, all exhaust
also, theres no way my mobo will let it run with a socket temp of 88c, actually, my comp would be fried by then. the hottest i have ever seen the socket temp get, was 67c and that was runing cpuburn at 2.2ghz at 1.8v for like 35minutes. it is stable with prime95, for the most part. i haven't had the time to let it burn for more than an hour, but in that hour, it passed every test

sagara, change the HSF for a better quality one as the stock HSF ain't really up to much when you try to o.c a 2800+ , also use some Artic silver 5 (AS5) thermal compound and those temps should drop ..... you using to much v.core for a small o.c for 2.2G you could use 1.675 - 1.7 v, that will also reduce your temps ......

i'll check teh bios version when i get home, i can't remember what it said. and as for teh voltage, prime95 quits testing it after a minute cause it's not 100% stable till it hits 1.8v then i can run it all i want. and all those damn fans, i've got let's see 3 psu fans, 3 case fans, the little fan on the graphics card, and the cpu fan. so, 8 in all hahaha. actually, i think mky bios is 1015 yeah, the bios version is 1015. and even though i only overclocked it from 2.08 to 2.21, it needed the voltage to go up to run stable. when i went to 2.15 it needed 1.7 before i could get prime95 to run for more than 5 minutes, when i hit 1.7 it ran as long as i wanted it to. then when i went to 2.21 (177mhs fsb) it needed 1.8v
i haven't finished cleaning the heatsink either, it's still half full of dust, even then, it never gets higher than 60c at full load. i deffinetly remember the bios being 1015, because when i was lookin around for some info on the mobo, some lists only had up to 1012 cause they weren't updated in a while.

The v.core is kinda strange, i run my 2800+ @ 2.4Ghz @ 1.8 v.core @ 191 FSB & can do 2.5Ghz @ 1.85v @ 200 FSB 100% stable .... yours just seems a bit to high for your o.c, if you can increase the ram voltage try that by .1 - .2 volts & lower the v.core to 1.7v then try prime95 & see if it's stable ...

i already increased teh ram voltage from 2.6 to 2.8. the vcore for some reason has to be at 1.8 before it'll run prime95 without failing. maybe it's just the setup i have with the mobo and what not, but i'll just workin on cleaning out my heatsink to lower it another 5 degrees (no kidding, i cleaned it half way and my idle and full load temps dropped 5 degrees)
