I have a dvd that my new dvd player will not recogise. Perhapes some discs just are incompatible with some drives. The dvd is clean and I have only come across this problem with Resident evil Apocalypse, Hero, and Elf. Why is my dvd burner incapable of reading these movies??????

So, I'm assuming you're talking about a new burner for your PC? Or are you talking about a new stand alone dvd player? Need more info.
What program are you using to rip it, what is the movie?

its the new encryption on some newer movie there batman ,you will need a different program to backup theses dvds ,and that would be
CloneDVD 2 with anydvd running in the background ,this combo will do ANY movie OUT there period.download both as a free trial and backup thoses movies heres the link
http://www.slysoft.com/en/
and a guide to use them
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html
and remember to use good blank media ( Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim) and burn at 4X max. you will have perfect backups everytime ,its that easy

If they are commercial, original dvds - there is no such thing as a an uncopyable DVD.
Latest versions of DVD Decrypter or AnyDVD will handle all current DVDs.
You need to ensure that you are using quality software for ripping and that your system is clean.
Movies mentioned are puppies - they just roll over and want to play.

Same question as arniebear. Is it an original dvd or a backup dvd that you are having issues with.
Quote: Perhapes some discs just are incompatible with some drives
That's true with backup dvds, not the case with original dvds unless you have a damaged disc.Even brand new original dvds may be bad. Most stand alones can handle these damaged/bad discs, but pc drives have many problems with them.
We call these brand new discs that won't rip, visually near perfect and the encryption is not the issue: bum discs, meaning a bad press. Backup dvds are another issue. They can really cause stand alones many issues, usually the no disc inserted errors, because plus and dash are totally different formats.
Sony and Columbia are putting some tough encryptions on them, but AnyDVD will rip right through them, usually eliminating the encryption as the problem.
I am still having nightmares about resident evil apacalypse, LOL
You've got to rule out the encryption, via AnyDVD like aabbccdd posted. When you have that program running-for original dvds only, and decrypter or DVD Shrink can't rip them, then usually the dirty/damaged/or plain old bum disc.

OK, I've read what everyone had to say, however there still is a problem. I do have AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter... etc. The ripping program is not the issue. Once my dvd recorder recognises the dvd its a sinch to copy.
But here is the problem. By dvd recorder sometimes does not recognise original dvds. It will try to load them over and over again with no luck. Once again I have a new LG DVD recorder, and I only have come across this a few times.
Why does my DVD recorder not recognise the dvd????????????

Then on that case, just throw your new dvd recorder out the window or step on it. <--- Nah... I was only joking, so please don't do that, again, "DO NOT" step on, or throw your dvd recorder out the window. :) :)
Anyways, all DVD writer should be able to read original dvds easily regardless. May be you just need a firmware update that's all. Go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=16 and see if you'll find any latest firmware for you new LG dvd burner, or go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=3&manufactor=16 - check it out for yourself.

I've run into a couple of discs over the years that when I tryed to rip them, my drive did not recognize them .. They turned out to be defective discs that I returned ... What would happed is that DVD Decrypter would say "not a DVD" and my drive would not play or rip it .. my set top recorders and players would play them with no problem ... Upon returning the discs, the replacements ripped just fine ...
