hi there can any one give me help into overclocking my 2800+ barton chip
i am running it on an abit an7 board with 1 gig ram and a thermaltake 10 fan , i also have 2 other fans running , 1 at the back and 1 at the front
it doesnt seem that the multiplier works , on the bios , it changes visually but not for real
any help would be great ,

ps i can change the fsb and can run it at 175x12.5 but its not stable any higher than that

i had the same problem.went to esupport.com upgraded bios but it cost 70 usd.you might be able to get a flash bios upgrade from the manu that made the board.the 2800+ barton core mutipliers are locked at 12.5 but you can work with that if you can raise the vcore.you might be able to zap the cpu higher in voltage so you can stabize the pc.im having the same problem with overclocking but im running at 2227 mhz,3,4,4,10 ram.if i can get it stable it flys

i overclocked mine to 2.21ghz, weird thing is that it took 1.8v to get it to run stable, otherwise it failed the test in prime95 i overclocked it to 2.15 at 1.7v both of the ram voltage was 2.8v you might want to talk to some people though, i've heard my voltage was high for it, even though any less and it was unstable well according to prime95 that is.
also, i mean, you said any higher than 175 and it was unstable, did you try upping the voltage a little?

1.920v on the v.core is way to much the absolut max is 1.85v for a 2800+, unless you have water cooling or a vapochil unit your lucky you didn't fry your cpu.... what ram are you using pc2700, pc3200 as this will affect the amount you can o.c your 2800+ , with pc2700 ddr333 you won't really get much past 177 FSB & remain stable with pc3200 ddr400 you will get all the way upto a 200FSB stable, your HSF & mobo are up for the challenge .....
The multiplier is locked @ 12.5 on the barton so you have to increase the FSB and dram/v.core voltages accordingly also updating the bios via Abit menuflash utility ( i think your mobo surports it ) to the latest would help....

hi there jonni , yeah i have pc3200 400mhz , the abit an7 with a thermaltake 10 cooler , i cant seem to get my bios to upgrade so anyhelp would be appreciated , i really want to make my computer faster , as dont have the cash to buy new one

Heres a link for the flashmenu utility and the newest bios from Abit for your mobo http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bios.php?categories=1&model=158 it's version 19. Just had a look at the online manual for the AN7, it's basically the same as my NF7-S v2 manual so i'll go through the o.c setup step by step, just makes it easier for me to try and help you out ... here go's -
To increase your FSB you need to enter your bios screen, then enter SOFTMENU SETUP where it says CPU operating speed you need to change this to USER DEFINE, this wiil then give you the External clock fuction which is what you need to increase the FSB .Do the same again over the power supply controller option.
Edit: are you running 2 x512 sticks of ram or 1 x 1024 stick ?
Try these settings FSB to 191,FSB/Dram ratio to by spd, CPU interface to enable, V.core to 1.8v, DDR sdram voltage to 2.8v .... if that works and is stable you will be running @ 2.4Ghz which is what i run 24/7 with my 2800+ ....

hi jonni , i have 2x256 and 1 512 sticks ,not sure what make they are though

up hi again
set all to what u said , i now get 2.40ghz but i now get internal beeping withing my motherboard ? did u get this , or how can this be fixed, once it starts to continuesly beeps the computer freezes

It's more than likely your memory 2x256 & 1x512 ain't really the best combo for overclocking, maybe try getting another 512 stick to replace your 2x256 sticks as the beeping could mean the ram is to clocked try lowering the fsb to 186 & see if that helps.
The spd thing relates to memory timings try downloading cpu-z to see if your memory sticks have the same timings http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A//www.cpu...
it'll be under the spd tab, theres a drop down box slot 1 & so on

erm
I think the 2800 Athlon has locked multipliers and you'll need to do some funny stuff to unlock it.(bits of wire or conductive pen)have a look here...

The only Athlons that are unlocked nowadays are the XP-M mobile chips.
The AN7 works with these chips just fine.
