I have a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop AMD that was running a hot and
shutting down on its own due to over heating. I went to Compaq and downloaded the service manual for it and took it upon myself to disassemble the computerand give it a thorough cleaning. I took my time and and took it apart all theway down to the motherboard, it was filthy. I used a can of air and blew all the dirt, dust and hair out of it. When I put the computer back together and turned it on it ran for about ten seconds and then shut down.I turned it on again and it did the same thing. I can?t do anything with it not even boot it into the bios. What did I do wrong? I took it back apart to double check my work and did not see any thing obvious and yes my fan is running. Any help or suggestions will be great thanks.

No i did not. I even read that in the manual but i just ignored it.
Is there a way to fix this problem or did I just ruin my computer?

Well sory to here about your PS2. I modded my PS2 with no static strap and it came out just fine. I guess I have no luck with computers.

take it apart again & go thru the manual slowly & carefully as might have partly dislodged something to cause the problem.

it sounds more like your power buttons came lose. those damn bitches are hard to get back into the little tiny slot. that's all that was wrong with a friends, he had the same problem. thing is though, it was at a weird angle, so the light still worked.
as for the static thing, i'm just guessing instead that you just didn't hook something up right, or something was loose. i mean, the only thing i can really think of that are super static sensitive are the cmos. hell, i never knew they had all this anti static stuff (except the wristbands) i basically just made sure i couldn't zap anything before i touched anything
