I am hoping someone can answer this question. Is it possible to hook up a stand alone DVD player to the SB Audigy Platinum, and if you can, what quality of audio out put can I expect? Also, if I can do this, how effective would the optical cables be? And last, if it is possible, and the DVD player is DVD-Audio and SACD capable, will it decode just as if it were an internal PC DVD drive? Tbanks for all replies in advance.

The Audigy should be able to decode the DVD-A info via an app like WinDVD Platinum or if you connect a DVD player with either optical or coaxial (audio) cable. It won't do SACD through the digital s/pdif input though. You have to use the 5.1 analog outs.

In either case the audio recording quality will be superb!

OK, I just bought an X-Fi Platinum card with the front control panel. I have hooked up a stand alone DVD player with optical cable from the DVD player to the optical in on the front control panel. Is this the correct set up? Also I have the red and white RCA's from the DVD player audio outputs connected to the red and white on the front control panel. I have the S/PDIF connected to the video out from the DVD player, going to the S/PDIF in on the control panel. As I write this, I can not get any sound from the DVD player with a standard CD. What am I doing wrong. I could greatly use some help on how to set this up. Thanks.

I don't have that card but I will say that you don't need the analog (Red and White) cables if your using the optical cable. Also, S/PDIF is for audio. Optical/Toslik and Coaxial audio (orange) are S/PDIF connections.
