alright...I am stumped here.... all I am looking to do is increase the overall volume level on a few MP3 files without changing the current quailty of the file.... So I go into Nero Wave Editor 2 and use the 'volume change' function and scroll the bar to what volume I would like...

I then do a 'save as' another file (powerpack lame MP3 encoder @ the same bit rate level of 192)....

I then open the new file in Itunes or any other audio application and it still sounds the same as the old low volume file...

any ideas? chuck

First, let's start with a couple of obvious questions. Did you start by highlighting the entire file? I'm not sure if it's the same for all but, Mine turns from Green waves with a black background to Blue waves with a white background. Then, did you see a substantial increase in the size of the waves? When you click on Volume>Volume increase, how many dB's are you increasing the file? You can also Preview the change then click on the box that say's bypass to actually hear the difference.

One more thing that I'm not really clear on but have been told by others on this site. When you are taking an MP3 file through Nero and making changes & saving it, it reencodes so you are losing quality. I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong here, but I believe it would be best to save it as a Wave file. Then use another program to reencode it back to MP3 for a couple of reasons. 1) You can use a program with a better encoder. Nero's isn't so good(Also read on this site). 2) You recieve a better quality file than if you were to go from lossy file to lossy file(Hope that makes sense).

I have been debating if I should do this also. Sometimes when you download a file the volume just isn't there like it should be. But, I've been worried about the quality loss when using Nero. I hope someone will join in on this thread & enlighten the two of us(& I know they will. LOL)
