I cant get any where with it.
DVDShrink shuts down as soon as it starts.
DVD Decrypter gets in a weird read loop.
My ANYDVD is past its 21 day trial. (not sure if I want to spend 50.00 to get key.)
This one is killing me. I have every thing and 3 different drives.
Thanks a Million

Also, DVD Fab Decrypter which is free available at http://www.filepedia.com under rippers. Also try cleaning the disk it could be a bad press, I doubt if there is any special protection on this one.

I have the same problem. I've tried DVDShrink, DVD Decrypter, and AnyDVD. DVDDecrypter goes into an infinite loop and reports an unknown encryption type. The DVDShrink and AnyDVD just give copy protection errors. Not sure if this is an intentional copy protection or if it is the result of a bad press.
The DVD itself does not work in my computer at work, it just keeps skipping around the chapters, but it works fine in my DVD player.

I'm also thinking there is no special protection on this one. It's being distributed by Halestone - not a big name. A bad press shouldn't give you a copy protection error. Try arniebears suggestion above w/ dvdfab decrypter. Are you using the latest AnyDVD - 5.4.1.1?

PC players are more sensitive to errors than standalone players. I really believe you got a bad disk. Lately, this seems to be common, if you still are receiving errors then take it back and get another original and see if this works :)

I am using the latest trial version of AnyDVD - I downloaded it to try ot on this disc. Also, I tried using a friend's disc and got the same results, so I believe it is either a bad press or they've got some new way of fooling these backup programs.
I will try DVD43 and DVDFab Decrypter and see if that works. I'll let you know what I find.

OK...are you seriously trying to crack Sons of Provo???? A) It's Sons of Provo. B) IT's a Mormon DVD. C) It sounds like HaleStorm has hit gold with their newly developed encryption software...sweet, I might get a pay raise.

Jacketman,
A) Great movie! Very funny.
B) I didn't know DVDs could be Mormon. That should up the membership.
C) If HaleStorm did develop a new encryption mechanism, it would be gold ...for, like, a week or so! Until one of the many available backup programs cracks it, as has been done with all previous attempts.
I take it by your pay raise comment you are employed by Halestorm? If so, what's the deal - bad press? or new encryption method?

Well...I wish I could say New encryption method because just this week 6 major studios joined forces to find a new way to protect movies from piracy....but in reality, there was a bad pressing...and the problem with the DVD encryption is being fixed. So...there you have it.
Actually...I love Sons of Provo--it's definitely very funny and is worth owning. Obviously...we'd love if people would actually go out and buy the DVD...but you may want to wait a couple weeks...when the new ones are available.

Jacketman,
Thanks for the info!
Unfortunately, I already own one of these "bad press" copies (no, really, I do). I was hoping to be able to back it up, as I do all of my DVDs.
I've noticed my copy is kinda sensitive. It works on my DVD player, but it has problems on PCs. Some won't play it at all, and others will stutter and lock up during the movie. That's what led me to believe it was more of bad pressing issue. Any chance they'll be allowing customers to exchange them when the new ones come out?

Here is what happened. My Aunt a non-member rented to see if it was any good. So I borrowed it to copy it to see if I wanted to buy it. I try ed copying it on my laptop,no luck. try ed it on aunts Desktop, and lap top no luck. Then my moms Desktop, no problems.
I was able to watch about 1/2 of it before we drove home. Then om Monday this week I went to "Seagull LDS Book Store", Mesa,AZ to buy it. I had to have it. Then as I'm checking out they "GIVE" me the soundtrack for free. so for $13.99 + Tax I get a great movie and a free ST.
This movie is just as good as "Singles Ward".
So I bring "SOT", plop it in the desktop to make a copy. (I do this will all of our DVD's. We have a 14 month old little girl. I don't want to be buying movies more than once.) It copied flawlessly!
Sooooo, with me copying the movie I was convinced on buying it.
