I have a compaq presario 2100 laptop AMD that I was using this morning. I closed the lid and left and it went in stand by mode. When I got back to my computer I lifted the screen and it was black and it would not do anything so I reset it. when I turned it back on, it shut off and on repetedly in about one second intervals. It did this about five times then it powered up on a black screen no compaq logo or any thing. when I restart it again it does the same thing over and over any help will be great.

Dont stress i have had this problem with my desktop pc in my room...
The issue is that the laptop computer is either overheated and needs time to cool down cause AMD processer is hotter than intel soo u need to at least give it 30mins to an hour also it could b a virus but i think its over heating soo yea if u restart ur pc or shut it down make sure u give it sufficent time also try everything else b4 u shut it down...

Good luck and dont stress....

Ahhhhh....the sleep of death. Either your mainboard is dead or your voltage converter board maybe shot and you aren't getting correct power anymore. If you remove your battery and just use the AC adapter does it help? Also try reseting your BIOS.

The last time this happened to me my hard drive crashed and it did this massive scandisk recovery that took awhile... If it does not let you do this, it may b that the hard drive is gone for good but first try resetting your bios also try the battery thing also try to c if you can boot in windows in safe mode... and see if u can fix it in there by using your system tools...

Good luck and keep us posted...

I would have to agree with you that the hard drive is bad due to it making noise before it died but you can take the hard drive out and it will still boot into the bios wich my computer will not do. Maybe this will help. I got brave one day and took it apart to see if there was anything unusual in side the computer. I download the service manual and printed out all 150 pages and got to work I took it apart all the way down to the mother board and it was filthy. so bought a can of air and cleaned it all out and put it back together, pluged it in pushed the power button and it came on bootted into windows but it was running extreamly slow I im guesing from the hard drive being bad. I used it for a while, shut it off came back to it the next day and now it is doing the same thing as it was before. If fix the boot problem then I will buy a new hard drive fo it but I dont want to wast my money.
