WinMX nolonger connects after AT&T rep guided me thru cmd.exe "fix" of failed internet access

Hi. A couple days ago, my internet connection (DSL with AT&T,on Windows XP sp2) suddenly stopped working / connecting to internet. This was a believe after zonealarm update or install of newest version.I could not get it working on my own, so called my service provider for assistance. Eventually the internet connection was working again.
However, either right after or a couple days later (im not sure) winmx would no longer connect. I have tried every conceiveable setting on it, uninstalling my firewall and windows firewall to test without firewall, etc to no avail. Ive even uninstalled and reinstalled newest version of winmx, as well as uninstalled newest winmx and installed older version of winmx to cover bases.
No matter what Ive tried, winmx now only starts to connect, but never actually does.
I have no idea what is wrong now, or how to fix it.?

Any ideas?
