Hi, has WinMX really gone for good? I've used that for such a long time now and it's the onyl thing I'm used to, I feel safer using that because i'm used to it.
Now my question, if it really has gone, what other programs do you suggest I use instead? and which would you say are the safest and easiest to use? I dont want to use Kazaa because of the spyware and virus problems, but i want something just like WinMX.
sny help would be great, thanks!

WinMX is not that great, I would go with limewire. Its fast and I don't think it has spyware.

Download the turbo-charged Limewire PRO, after downlaoding the basic version from the website use the websites search for the PRO version and you can download it there for free. It is faster then the basic and with no ads.

Is the WINMX2005 really free, or is there a hidden cost in there some place?

My Guess strongly suggests that if winmx was gone, AD would have it in the news bulletin...

You could also try getting bearshare, have not found a fake file on it yet. Does have adware, but you can get rid of it.

It seems it's true, our beloved WinMX finally succumbed to those bloody record labels. What I can't figure out ios how they actually shut down the network, considering its based around heaps of nodes around the world. If your really stuck on what filesharer to use check out packetnews.com - its a search engine for IRC files, all you need is a client, like mIRC. Once you figure out how to use it you'll get average speeds of 80kb/s. I do not condone sharing illegal files so only use this for downloading legal stuff like freeware :P

LMAO!!!
If you wanted freeware you would get it off this site for 3x the speed of torrents/irc/etc.

It looks as if NOW is the time for those who are on P2P sites to go ahead and start using torrents for everything.
I know how this sounds, because I used to use Limewire for specific songs and stuff.
Sorry to say, but since aD put the link up about the "cease and desist" letters that all the P2P groups have received, this is going to be the end of P2P sites such as WinMX, Limewire, and BearShare.
However...I do have some info in case anyone wants anything regarding PRIVATE P2P networks, this is midstep of torrents.
Man, this is pretty rough for those who don't like using torrents or just like a simplerer interface, but oh well, easy come...easy go.
Catch you all later!

Does this have any effect on the supposed anonymous freenet that may be starting up? because if they don't like this type of sharing, they certainly aint going to like anonymous

I tried to get the Limewire Pro version also, you have to pay to get it. I am not fond of Limewire and trying to use it again confirmed that yet again for me. Most that bad mouth Winmx simply did not know how to use it properly. It was a great p2p, and will be missed.
I just started using this one for p2p and so far it's not bad
but too soon to tell.

And this one for Bit Torrent, works well and has a nice interface.

Both are thanks to other AD members suggestions.
I hope this helps someone.

Just to clearify...you don't have to pay to get Limewire Pro.
Here is what you need to do:
1.Get "free" Limewire
2.After setting it up do a search for "Limewire Pro"
That's it. You are done!
BTW...always remember to check your download before installing, just to make sure you don't get a virus.
I got L-Pro 2 minutes after setting up Limewire, the free version. So...it CAN be done.

Thanks Venom, I was wrong. I'll give it a try, maybe I will like the pro version better. It's worth a shot.
