I still don't really undersatnd what Shrink does even at 0% compression to alter video files. Can someone explain it to me?

I mean I don't get the difference when one program encodes compared to another, or what transcoding is and whether it's good or not.

I just want a true 1:1 copy, a pefect copy.

Does CloneDVD do the same thing? Or will it ake a true copy?

If you want a 1:1 identical copy, I suggest you invest in some "Dual Layer" blank media. They are pricey though compared to single layer media. They are about $5.00 a pop.

Easiest way to make a copy of a movie using dual layer media is by just doing a ISO Read then a ISO Write in DVD Decrypter.

Yeah, I know how to make a DL copy.... but if have a bunch of movies that need no compression when I write only the movie file, or just take out one or two audio streams... these are the movies I want to be able to burn with no alteration of video files.

I use RB w/CCE for compression down to 75%, anything below that I will either do a DL burn or even split it into 2 DVDs (which I would prefer to avoid).

I just don't know if this "DVD Shrink alters the video even at 0% compression" thing is being blown way out of proportion or what. I just hate the feeling of having an slightly inferior copy when I could have a true 1:1 unaltered copy of the original by using a different program.

I am also a bit afraid of the longevity of burnable DVD's as no one can really say how long they will last, some say about 5 years, yet Maxell advertises 100yr archival life.....and DL's are aminimum of $7.00CDN on sale here, whereas I can get TY and Verb 4.7GB DVD's for $0.60 a piece, so if they go after 5 years it's not as big a deal.

Man do I ramble a lot.

CloneDVD will give you a perfect 1:1 quality copy at 0% compression. The log will even say that the size is sufficient and the transcoder has not engaged (or words to that effect).
