(just some notes after getting my dvd writer to work in the wake of incessant "INVALID BLOCK ADDRESS" errors. hope this helps someone.)

equipment: pioneer a06 writer, bytec firewire enclosure, hp ze1230 laptop.

the dvd writer worked fine in my desktop pc, but in the external firewire enclosure, the results were VERY choppy. with one particular brand of media (HP DVD+RW 4x), it runs without incident 100% of the time. with pretty much any other brand, i would get "invalid block address" errors maybe 70-80% of the time. not a good ratio.

now, i'm not sure which one of these was THE important step, but here's a list of everything i did to get my external dvd writer working at a tenuous 100% rate (so far):

- installed force aspi
- updated the firmware on my enclosure
- updated the firmware on my dvd writer
- ran nero cleantool, then reinstalled nero
- cleared up hard drive space on my c: drive
- *** CLOSED ALL PROGRAMS WHEN BURNING WITH NERO

this last step was critical. until i tried that, i was still getting errors. the idea is, NOTHING can be running except nero. it sounds kind of goofy but it seems to work.

i'm obviously not too knowledgeable about the technical aspects of this, but dvd burning is in my experience a juggling act between the hard drive, the dvd drivers, the software, and the quality of blank media. if you're getting "invalid block address" errors, i'd be skeptical if any ONE thing was causing the problem. but i could be wrong. ;-)

best of luck!

i've been having the 'invalid block address' this evening on one of my new LG burners. it was mounted internally and reads from discs fine/rips fine, but every time i feed it a Verb TY and try to burn 8x it fails at lead-in with 'invalid block address' (i never do 8x but was seeing what results i'd get at 8x). a 4x write on very same disc was fine. a few times got the same results. as drive is gonna be sent back for swap anyway now as i don't trust it, hooked it up in a USB2 enclosure, same results. the other LG drive lives in a USB2 enclosure, switched that on, and it's been burnig at 8x sweetly all eve. so one burner's faulty and it would appear that i can now burn at the elusive 8x....

...just in case that helps anyone...
