I am about to install a new HD on my mother-in law's computer. She has WinXP on her old drive but has no install disc. I have downloaded Magic Jelly Bean Keyfinder 1.41 to recover her registration code. My question is this: Can I use a different XP disc for the install and use her original code to register it? Will Microsoft recognise it? Thanks for any help.... Lawman

You should not have any problems doing that. I have used a burned copy of an XP cd (in my "on the go" tool kit) to do reinstalls on many friends PC's (using the cd key on the COA tag...all legal). Never had any problems. You should be fine. They dont really care about the media that was used to install it. They only care that it is legally licensed to be installed on that particular machine. Which it is, if you used Jelly Bean to find the original cd key.

Hope this helps.

@Lawmanxxx

You should not have a problem if using a legal XP key code.

Thanx for the advice. The original problem was a 6gb hard drive with WinXP and a ton of music and video files bogging it down. My mother-in-law couldn't figure out why it kept crashing! I'll go ahead and install a new 80gb HD - that'll do the trick. Thank you both...Lawman
