is the disc an original? and is it clean?

Have you got more than one cd drive, if so try booting off the other one?

If not it could point to a hardware problem....

Hmmm..

Have you more than one stick of memory in?

To eliminate a memory problem... Try one stick in at a time...
For example.. If you have 2x 512mb ddr sticks, try one in and if it still gets an error take that out and try the other one...

It could be many things, but seems you have eliminated memory now....

Could be CPU? What CPU do you have? Do you have another of the same type?

To be honest it sounds like a hardware problem...

Im lucky as i own a computer company and can just swap and change parts untill i norow down the problem....

It could be a lot of things like i said before...

Did you buy your stuff from a local pc shop or online?

If you got it at a local shop see if they can test the CPU out for you... I see its a 939 pin chip, if you had another handy that would have been great, but i doubt you will?

Are you using an on-board vid card, or an agp/pci-x card? If you added another card, try installing using the only the on-board (remove the other). I would also strip down all unecessary hardware, still only use one mem stick (closest to the CPU), and also double check all ribbon cables to ensure that they are fully seated.

You can also get a win 98 boot disk, and copy the setup files (i386 folder) to the hdd. Leave the hdd formatted as fat32. Run setup from the hdd, and you should be OK. After install, open a cmd prompt and run "convert C: /fs:ntfs" to convert to ntfs. If you have errors while copying the cd to hdd, then the media could be bad. Try to get another cd from a friend or something, but make sure to use your own CD key for isntallation.

Hope this helps.

Found this article on microsoft's site....

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812580

It gives you the cause and resolution... Try this stated in the article as you are installing a fresh install...

what kind of hard rive are you trying to run? if it's sata then you need to enable it in bios and run drivers by pressing F6 on start up.It's probably trying to copy windows but cannot place it to the hard drive.Had kind of the same problem when I built mine.Try changing boot sequence in bios or check it.

Is it crap or is it memorex?
