On a fresh install, it will take several reboots to get all the available updates. How many times has it done this? I would say that this is normal behaviour for a release version of the OS. Constantly looking for and installing updates. Give it s few update/reboot cycles and see where you stand.

Yikes.....You signed in as an admin? What does windowsupdate tell you?

Check add/remove programs and tell it to show updates. Are there any there? Is this a retail, or oem install? MS is now preventing a lot of people with copied/pirated versions of XP to update their machines. Not accusing you of anything, just curious if this is the cause of the problems.

So when you go to, Start > All Programes > Windows update... What does it say when you try and attempt an update, any messages at all?

Ok what i would do is try another restore with your discs, as you done it a month ago, maybe some wired software problem developed in that short time?

check out google on how to disable Micro$oft Genuine Advantage and see if that allows you to complete the downloads. Evidently there have been many "False positives" with OEM manufacturer disc windows installations. It's very easy to disable, but I don't think forum rules allow me to discuss this. Mods, if it's OK, please let me know.

Yeah i understand as usually large manufacturers such as HP put all there crap on with OPK tools.... Has a friend got a windows XP disc you can borrow and just use your licence key...

Then you can do a base install with all your drivers etc then do a ghost image backup (Norton Ghost).

Xenokai, did you try disabling the validation like I suggested? It takes about 10 seconds as it is just an add-on setting in explorer. If that is the problem, it wont allow auto updates until it is disabled.
