How are you bootinmg the backup? Magic Swap? if so you can force a PAL game to play in NTSC by choosing NTSC video mode on the swap magic start up screen.
If you have a chip installed then I guess you need to see if you can get your chip to force PAL to play in NTSC mode.

Yeah I have a Matrix Infinity. To force video mode you hit triangle+circle at boot up. Then you go to video mode, change it to NTSC, and just leave the Y fix to auto. I downloaded the PAL version of Gun and it plays perfectly when set to NTSC mode. Pretty sick. When you turn your PS2 on, does it say Toxic OS or Matrix, anything like that?

yea it didnt work..i guess i dont have that chip...
i used a program ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix to try to convert it to NTSC, it converted it ok but the yfix didn't work, the bottom part of the game is off the bottom of the screen :(
the y fix should move it up a few lines or something but it doesnt work for this game... any ideas?

Some popular modchip prices: DMS 4 Pro=(shipping+installation+chip)=$110, DMS 4 Lite=$100, Matrix Infinity=$100. For the price of two PS2 games, you can play all your backups. Not bad. If your in the UK I don't know exact prices, Hursty can help you there. Or you can just use a currency converter: http://finance.yahoo.com/currency Those are the chips you should get $100 for the Matrix Infinity (which I have) or $110 for the DMS 4.
26. Q. I'm in the market for a modchip or premodded console. What are some reputable sites I can order from?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/251223 In addition modchip.com and norcalmods.com are supposed to be reliable.

Ok, ive read through most of the stuff on this page.
I have 50 Cent Bullet Proof downloading right now, i downloaded it once b4 but i deleted it becuz i couldnt get my Ps2 Hdd to work in my pc.
1. When putting my pS2 Hdd in my pc, i just leave my regular one as the MASTER, and plug the ps2 one in as a SLAVE?
2.When bulletproof is done, and i extract to get that HUGE rar, that is the ISO right? I already changed winrars settings to not recognize ISO's.
3.When I get my hd in, I just use HDL Dumb, to browse and find the ISO, and install?
P.S. I have HDLoader =D

I was downloading a ps2 game and i wondered if my ps2 will even play the DVD-RW i put it on. so i put a movie that i burnt on a DVD-RW into my ps2 and it didnt even read it. will i get this error again when i put the ps2 game on the DVD-RW. will i have to get some type of chip. Or will it just not work in my ps2 because the ps2 does a horrible job at reading things. what should i do. also is there a good place to download computer games. thanks a lot.
And is there any way to download ps2 games fast because i am using bittorrent and it took me bout 2 days to download a 1.7 gig game using high speed internet.

No DVD-RW's will not work with the PS2. You need to use quality DVD-R's. 2 days is normal for downloading a PS2 game over BT. It depends more on the speed of the people uploading the game more than your max download speed. I've heard newsgroups are faster, but they cost money. You can download a program called grabit. It's kinda like a BT client. Any further questions regarding burning PS2 games, read my FAQ: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193

If you want to play a PS2 game off your PS2 your PS2 needs to be modded in some way. Either with a MODCHIP or SwapMagic with a slide tool or fliptop to swap disc.
I also agree with Tokijin on taking 2 days to download a PS2 game. It really all depends on how well seeded the torrent file is. Most PS2 games iv downloaded takes around 2 days to finish.
I have recently (the past few weeks) started using newsgrouops to download my PS2/Xbox/Gamecube games. I can uasly download a game overnight using a newsgroup.
Check and see if your ISP offers a newsgroup at no charge. My ISP is charter cable and it offers a newsgroup includded. That is where I get my games at.
I have tried alot diffrent newsgroup programs and the best 1 I like is GrabIt. So look into the newsgroup option if your ISP offers it.
If your ISP dosent offer it then you can always join a newsgroup and get the games that way.

@LarrylJe, so you've had good success with newsgroups? I am getting increasingly frustrated with crappy BT d/l speeds. How would I check if my ISP offers a free newsgroup, just search for it? Is grabit free? Thanks for the info.

GrabIt is free
I have had good results. I uasly get 300 to 500 KBs download speed when im downloading.
and you can either go to your ISP website and see if it has a newsgroup or call them and ask.
A problem you could come into is some ISP only let you download a certain amount off the newsgroup a month. So you really need to get all the details.

Thanks for the advice. but now i unzipped the file, its about 4.08 gigs. its in the iso file. now what do i do. i have Alcohol 120, Nero, dvd dycreptor... i heard you guys talk about Alcohol 120 to be really good. so could u please give me some more advice on how to actually burn the file to a DVD-R (walkthrough).
aslo i looked at the mod chips and the one i want to get says it reads DVD+RW. i have dvd+rw's so can i use those or is it just best to stick to DVD-R.
Thanks again.

Most PS2 Games can actually be just backed up using DVD Decrypter using ISO Read, then ISO Write. It's actually really easy, but this only works as long as there's no Dummy Files nad the DVD isn't a DVD9, but for the DVD9's there's not too many you have to worry about, I think there's only like 15 games or so that are DVD9's.

@Tokijin: If your ISP doesn't offer newsgroups, check out Giganews. They have a great retention (70 days) and you can get an unlimited account for like $24 a month; otherwise, you can get limited accounts. Just an idea....
