Yeah that's a good point I guess and pretty much true. But I'll stick with my SwapMagic and Fliptop. Also I think Maxwell is a good brand for media and is just as good as the Verbatim and whatever other one you metioned. And if Verbatim and that Tayko or whatever is so good how come Staples, Circuit City, SuperWal-Mart, don't have it? Now I have seen it at Bestbuy tho. And my dad says their a good brand as well, but he also says Maxell is good itself.

Well Maxell's can be good media, if they're made in Japan. The high grade Hitachi Maxell's made in Japan are excellent media. I believe you can get them at CompUSA or Office Depot. The Maxell's made in Taiwan are of varying quality. You could end up with RitekG05 which is decent media, or you could end up with CMC Mag AE1, garbage media. Big manufacturer's like Maxell, TDK, Memorex, or Sony outsource their DVD's to several different factories. Some are good and others are bad. You can technically get Taiyo Yuden's at chain stores. The Sony DVD+R's made in Japan, as well as the green Fuji DVD-R's made in Japan are Taiyo Yuden's. Those are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. The only way to get the Taiyo Yuden brand name DVD's (with the TYGxx media code) is to order them online at http://www.supermediastore.com or other sites. I don't know why most chain stores don't carry them. My impression is that the people that work there often don't know good media from crap media. I've been told by employee's at Staple's and Radio Shack that Memorex is decent media. That show's me right off they know nothing of good media. I usually probe for questions that I already know the answer's to, to see if the sales reps are knowledgable at places like Staple's. They've told me such wonderous things as NAV 2005 is a great product and product X is good, when I know for a fact it's crap. That's just my theory, I'm sure there are people who work in chain store's who are quite knowledgable about DVD Burning and quality, it could just be people locally aren't. So no offense if you work at Staple's or Radio Shack, it's just a theory based on my limited experience's.

Ah, I suppose,I don't own a chipped PS2, (I use Swap Magic,) but I do know several who do (well.. have) and they have had their console just blow out on them, I don't really know the chips that well, but I suppose the chips may have gotten better, and their are a lot of people who do say, the DMS4 is a good reliable chip, so I guess they are better than they have ever been.

@blkhawk

There is a little more to it than that, the type of DVD you use plays a huge part into wether it is playable or not, and quite a few games have to be re-built in order to play them, or even burn them..

Yeah I wasn't trying to call you out or anything. I don't own Swap Magic and now that I have a chip, I never will. I do know a decent amount about it. I recommended it to my friend who uses it all the time and burned all the games he uses with it, but it's not the same as hand's on knowledge. I'm quite sure you'd know more about which games require rebuilding, have dummy files, etc. Since I have a chip, such things don't matter to me. Keep up the good work.

hmm hi guys, ive tried to read as many pages i could of this to find my answer but cannot seem to find it, my problem is:

A: im a complete noob at this, yes ill admit that.

B: ok, ive downloaded a torrent ps2 game, i had as people have mentioned quite a few rar files, 001, 002 etc..
in my case i opened 000 as it was the first file, after i opened that, i got the following: 5 files (CNF, DATA, EACN, IOP, NETGUI), then 2 file types (PS2DIR.BIN, SLUS_213.67) and finally some 'SYSTEM' thing (speeddial)..

i dont seem to have an 'image' as people have been mentioning, where do i go from here? , i tried burning all these files to a disk, but to no avail =/.. any help would be really appreciated, and sorry if the question has been answered.. just so many pages.. ><.. thanks a lot in advance

You probably extracted the iso file. Extract the first numbered file with WinRAR i.e. Game000.rar. Check the extension of the file you extracted. Is it iso, rar, what? More than likely it's an iso file.

Yes. It's not a rar file, you have Winrar as your default file association for iso files. I.E. if you use Windows Media Player to play MP3 files, the Windows Media Player icon would appear behind each of your MP3 files.

88. Q. How do I burn PS2 DVD games with Alcohol 120%?

Burning the game to DVD:
1. Insert your blank disc.
2. Go to File-->Open. Browse to your iso file. Double click it. Once it's open under Alcohol 120% right click it.
3. Select Image Burning Wizard.
4. Select your recorder, set the write speed to 4x.
5. Click next.

What type of media are you using? What's the Media ID?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

4GB's doesn't necessarily need rebuilt. 4.37GB's is about the cut off point for Swap Magic. I know you know that Mik3h, just adding my opinion. Cheers!

Yeah I hate wasting my Taiyo Yuden's as well. For awhile I rebuilt all EA games, until I realized I didn't need to on high quality media. Of course I have a modchip, not Swap Magic. Cheers!

You need WinRAR, open them with WinRAR to extract the PS2 iso, in order to burn.

Are you using DVD+RW/-RW's? Never use DVD+RW/-RW's with the PS2. They're terrible for the laser.
