You load the mds file into DVD Decrypter. That question has been answered numerous times, search a little.

I have DVD Decrypter and have my file. I also have the DVD burner. I don't have a modchip or swap disc, is there other ways to play the games than these ^. If so please help. Also, will the PS2 recognize the DVD file without a modchip or swap disc

No.

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter.
Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on a quality 8x DVD-R.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544
If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else? The brand of media you use means very little.
The key determinant of media quality is the Media ID. For info on the Media ID, check the bottom of this thread.

3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or

Use WinRAR. I'm not sure if it is as accurate as IsoBuster..can anyone confirm?

Winrar is an excellent program. It's all most people use to extract rar files. It works with just about any form of compression including rar files, 7z, ace, and zip files. Just one thing, are you extracting a rar file or the iso? You don't need to extract the iso, you burn it to disc. The only reason to extract an iso is to rebuild a game. In short, double check the file extension of the file you wish to extract. If it's an iso file, burn it to disc. If it's a rar file, then extract it.

You'd probably have better luck if you posted in the PC games section.

I'm sure it's just a rar file. For example, I have Suikoden V on my HD now. It has numeric file extenions like Suik.001. When I mouse over it, Windows says its a 001 file, though obviously it's a rar file. Try to decompress the first numbered file with WinRAR.

I dont know much about chips, search this site there are good threads on chips.

The 3 best chips on the market are:

DMS4 PRO SE
------------
Product Description:
DMS4 has been at the forefront of the modding scene since it's inception. Development allows evolution and advances to make improvements and refinements. The Special Editions (S.E.) of the DMS4 Lite and DMS4 Pro offer new advantages and refinements to this very popular product. DMS Tech. have continued devlopment to make several main improvements to the DMS4 range, the new S.E. version of Lite and Pro offer:

Optimized PCB layout
Optimized PCB size
Actel chip now has smaller package size
Hardware code revised to over increased stability and patching performance
Revised the installation point of Q, which now becomes C on the V12-V13 and V14 series of PS2 consoles. (Installation on V1-V11 remains unchanged)
Serial flash technology
Improved error checking
Improved filtering of noise

DMS4 SE opens a whole new era in the evolution of Modchips. DMS are the first to offer a Modchip for amateur developers and coders which boot and load legal ELF files = homebrew software (ps2 media player, utilities, demos, emulators) . DMS4 SE is the beginning of the fifth generation.
The DMS4 Lite SE offers great features, with undeniable value for money. The DMS4 Pro SE version caters for those who require advanced features and a greater flash memory size. Both Mods work accross the board on Japanese/Asian/European and USA systems v1-v14.

MATRIX INIFINITY GREEN DOT
---------------------------

Product Description:
Analysis and development for the V14 model is finally complete.
Due to changes in the V14 hardware the old recovery mode was not compatibe and had to be redesigned.

The new color code for this Infinity is GREEN.

The GREEN DOT Infinity are thus fully V1-V14 compatible and 100% stable.

Auto media detection - ie PS1, PS2 & DVD Movies all boot directly - no swapping to different modes! Compatible with All Versions Including the NEW v14 PSTwo Slimline. Once fitted correctly, this Universal Upgrade will make your PS2 capable of playing software along with the potential to read CD-R and DVD-R from all over the world. The Matrix Infinity also allows for those who like to do more than play games - try your hand at programming, without having to purchase expensive development kits - or why not try a bit of research into the inner workings of this amazing and powerful machine - the choice is yours! With a maximum of only 19 wires to install, this upgrade is 'do-able' by even a soldering novice!

This chip has a 100% boot rate, and also allows for DVD Region Free Incorporated !! ( to play all regions DVD without need of any extra operation.)

This is your NO HASSLE solution to upgrading your PS2 v1-v14!!

CRYSTAL CHIP 1.1 [128KB EDITION]
--------------------------------

Product Description:
The CRYSTAL MODCHIP CC 1.1 is the 2nd version of the Crystal PS2 Chip series for PlayStation®2. The design is very compact and optimized for v1-v14 system revisions.
This new revision replaces the 4kbyte Serial EEPROM with a 128kbyte Serial Flash. Serial Flash is considerably faster to read and write than the Serial EEPROM and the additional 124kbyte of storage can be used to expand the Crystal Chip firmware capabilities. This new version of CC1.1 is compatible with Crystal Chips Software Release 19 and later.

Crystal Team comment:
After almost a year of designing, developing and testing CC 1.1 we're finally ready to share it with the world. We use only high-quality components and the latest manufacturing techniques so that even though we're positive the design itself is extremely stable, we're sure that the end result will also be of the same quality. And as if that weren't enough, every single CC is thoroughly tested after manufacturing to protect against the occasional manufacturing error or failed component. We've designed the layout of the Crystal Chip with the end-user in mind. By placing 4 "ground" pads on the PCB, the installer can decide which pad they want to use, based on where they mount the chip.
We've also limited the location of the solder pads (with exception of 3.3V and GND) to 2 sides of the CC PCB, so that you may avoid having to route wires around or over the PCB to reach the pads.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
You can get all these chips and probably every chip possible at
http://www.mod-chip.com/
http://eu.mod-chip.com/

if you purchase a mod chip of this site you get a free installation manual,( i bought 1 from there myself ) which is extremeley easy to follow.

The Duo2SE is a decent chip. If you're going to take the time to get a chip, go with the DMS 4 Pro SE, Matrix Infinity, or Crystal Chip 1.1. The Duo2 requires a reset to boot games, and doesn't support DVD-9 backups. For $10 or $20 more you can get a chip which auto boots everything, no swapping or resetting, and supports a feature set worthy of your money. The Ghost2 is another very solid chip which supports those features. Someone found the Ghost 2 on consolesource for $20. There are some recent concerns about consolesource.com, check (resellerratings.com) but if you're on a budget, it's hard to beat the G2 for $20. What it will do is boot anything your throw at it right off, no swapping or resetting.

http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/customer/product.php?productid=2089

Be forewarned, I don't have a ton of long term reliability data on the G2 chip. I do believe it to be a solid chip, but I have nowhere near the long term data I have on the other three. If that's a large concern for you, pay a little more for a Matrix Infinity. It's simply the most reliable, easy to use chip, period. Read my modchip FAQ before making your decision.
