DVD drive issue

I have a NEC 3500 dvd drive that is not working. Up until now it has been working fine. I noticed last night that the drive was not listed when I went into My Computer. I have powered down, unplugged, plugged back in and powered back on. I went into add/remove hardware, it shows that it is disabled, tried to enable, windows can not enable. Went into device manager, not able to enable from there, either. Need some ideas.
