So, I finally have decided to stop burning 2 CD VCD's, and finally invest in a DVD Burner. My question is which one would be the best to buy? I know this is sort of an opinionated question, so if someone can just explain to me why are some burners $200 and have the exact same burn rates as a $60 DVD Burner?
EX. Office Max is having a sale on MEMOREX 16x Internal DVD Dual Layer Drive, which supports both + and - media, DL, and both +R and +RW media. Is the buffer size the only difference? On this particular drive, it is 2 MB. Will that work, or should I consider spending more money? Feel free to suggest any drive that you think works good and is cheap.

My BenQ cost $42.99 (including shipping) and was worth every penny ...

Here are some tests, read, enjoy, compare, and make up your own mind

I've had nothing but Pioneer drives, and they've been good to me. Newegg has the Pioneer 110 for $48 shipping included. Personally I'd rather buy a drive with a name I've heard of before. Pioneer's been around a long time....

You haven;t heard of BenQ? Ok, Ok .. They make the PX740 for Plextor .. Have you heard of Plextor?

Pioneer won't booktype DVD+R discs without a hack .. This rules out Pioneer in my eyes!

I got a Memorex dualformat/dual layer 16x burner. There doesnt seem to be a model number on the box..http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prodBlock.jsp?BV_U...
Theres a link for it at officemax, where I got it. I saw Kypermedia, TDK, Memorex, and Office Max brand DVD's, along with a few others I cant remember. I was limited on time but checked out most of the cases and they were all made in Taiwan.

I'd say stay away from the Khypermedia Store Brand and Memorex that only leaves the TDK's at that particular Store and the ones that are made in Japan are the ones to get.. Memorex the majority of the media is bad.. If you are lucky enough to find some made in Japan they'd be ok...
Verbatims are one of the only brands made in Taiwan that are good to use...

Made in Japan you usually know what you're going to get as far as Quality
with made in Taiwan you don't know what you may find...

Right now, Office Depot has Maxell 25 for $9.99 .. Look for the made in Japan although the made in Taiwan are good also ... Don't buy any media from Office Max, all they carry is junk

^^Good deal..unfortunatly the closest office depot is about 45 minutes away from me. The only other thing I have near me is Staples, or Best Buy and Circuit City if you can find good media at those kind of stores. i'll have to check em all out.
