hi there,

i have recently been having problems when burning a dvd.

When i have finished backing up a disk, and i take the back up out of my dvdrw and check to see if the dye has run etc , i keep getting this issue.

during the last few days about 7 out of 10 backups have had probs.

its hard to explain but about 1 and half centimetres from the end of the disk there are straight marks that look like scratches, but upon closer inspection it actually looks as though its dark ink . The marks are ALWAYS about 1 and half centimetres in.

does anyone now whats causing this ??

i use data write yellows witch i have done for the last 3 years.

could my drive be screwed??

thanks in advance and i hope i make a little sense

this is why i won't use datawrite media, or other similar media. sounds like the dye isn't even at the outer edge of discs, common problem on subpar discs. i'm not saying datawrite are subpar necessarily (they use different manufacturer's discs) but i've had no luck with them, even the MCC-coded datawrites. So i only use decent media such as in my signature

Creaky you go it all covered. You know, more and more people show me that they don't understand about media! It's half the battle! Use better media and most of the problems go away..... just what I found out! and I've be burning happily and more frequently now that I know what works for me! No coasters with TYs, Verbatim, Sony, Maxell! I strictly use TYs now..... nothing else will do!

spliff........ maybe those data write yellows are now made in a different factory..... maybe after 3 yrs they changed! I know that 4 yrs ago Memorex (or should I say memosux) used to be made by RICHOJPN which is a great media maker!! now they are made by CMC crap!!! use DVDIdentifier and see where they are manufactured and here is a list to check them out: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

OK ,

I checked the disks the datawrite yellows were indeed cmc magnetics.

But i looked through my cupboard and found a old ridisk 2x. So i checked this disk and it was manufactured by mitsuibishi chemical corp. I then burnt a back up movie (full retail , set to 4300MB) and when i checked the disks the marks were still visible. agin about 1 and half cm from end of disk.

On that list mitsuibishi are a top make , so im stumped im gonna go buy some verbrtium or whatever there called later so ill let you now.

MCC made media is top notch and every bit as good as taiyo yuden. I actually prefer MCC over TY.

CMC shows it's true colours again...

as to the maek on the disc near the edge, are you sure this isn't just when you'be burnt a disc that's way away from full capacity, say 3GB or whatever and the 'marks' as you call them is in fact unused space on the disc ??
