I really doubt that law enforcement will get you if you are downloading a lot of porn unless you are downloading kiddie porn. I don't even believe there is a trade group for the Porno industry. I would laugh my ass off if someone sent me a summons to appear in court because I was stealing porno.

hmmmm..........Time Warner, sorry I don't know anything about P2P, as I do not download any to do with filesharing. I put in the link above, because it seems to me that the industries are going after the older people, such as myself. I have no idea how to go about filesharing, nor would I want to. However, my kids most likely do, and may have or not, WITHOUT my knowledge. I wouldn't even know where to find such files on my computer. I am totally inept when it comes to computers. Can someone please tell me why the person that supplied the movies for download were not punished or named as part of the lawsuit? To me it seems that they are just as guilty? Or perhaps the site and movies were a BAIT for downloading to begin with?

As a note, I do know about TimeWarner as I purchased a boxed set of Alex Haley's Roots for $75 CAD from a retail store in Canada. I could not play the dvds on my Toshiba, as the subtitles would appear at each chapter change. It did not matter if I removed the subtitles with my remote, they would appear again. I phoned WarnerBros for a replacement for the defective dvds, ones that would work on my Toshiba and was ACCUSED of having pirated dvds, and if I hadn't bought directly from them, no help. I explained that on their website, they do NOT ship/sell to Canadians, I had purchased from a reputable retail store and that I had the retail cash receipt. I got the too bad, so sad reply.

I hope TimeWarner sees this post because I was and still am very ANGRY with them !!!!!!!! Almost makes me want to spite them and pirate their dvds!

Just a thought for BitTorrent users,
most cases are todo with the fact that a "victim" is uploading content to other users. Hence, simply downloading and deleting and/or moving the content off the computer is not enough - by the very nature of BT, one must uplaod to download, hence, as soon as you start downloading (and have some segment of the contnet) you start to upload.

So you're in danger WHILE you download BECAUSE you UPLOAD.

Just a thought.

You know that rare phenonomon when after hours and hours and hours of troubleshooting, things just just magically work and you have no idea why? Just gotta love it! ;-)

I'd like to comment and say that I know a couple of people who have received warning letters straight from the feds warning them about their online or offline piracy behavior as it is described. I mentioned this to say that you can be snitched out by anyone i.e. friends or family or surfing strangers. There are phone numbers or "Snitch Lines" available that could have the law on to you in no time.

There is always the question of whether your local goverment wants to persue a guppie or a big fish. But who knows what or how it was said about your behavior when reported. I think the notion that someone making money down loading or copying media content maybe a sore spot and trigger for persuance because it is still is a broad topic of debate as to whether a person should be convicted for the simple use of file sharing or DVD burning for private use.

Given the fact the burners as well the blank media is sold in stores totally supplying and supporting what is needed to share files and copy protected media. And this itself being under no restriction by the law. Now multiply that by the millions of people doing this around the world. So I close in saying "Play at your own risk".

Fair do's

But, you can only get 'snitched' through a snitch line if you are dumb enough to go and shout out to the world that you are downloading, or if you are stupid enough to try selling copyrighted material in public....

But still, even if it is for private use, it is still stealing. You are not making money as such, but you are just not spending it. Which leaves them out of pocket, the amount of which is always exaggerated by them, mind.

No flames intended, But being exposed to law enforcement is not hard at all (Given some thought). The fact that very few people hide there interest in simply owning the legal technology to file share or duplicate copy written media i.e a computer? Whether your considering the street peddler or the college kid on campus or either persons reason for the need to sell or give away copywritten media material or even where they got it from. The thought of this being seen as a crime or stealing is overlooked by public demand in the millions and convenience supported by the sale of media software, Blank DVD disc media, and electronic devices used to make this so-called crime possible. Having long debates over the right or wrong semantics of any of this is not my objective or concern. (What you do, What I do? Who cares really). My point is according to US federal law file sharing or duplicating copywritten material is illegal at any rate, 1 copy or 10, For monitary or non-monitary gain, owned rented or borrowed. A fact and law that most of us actively disagree with, whether one admits or not again is not my concern. "Play at your own risk":).
