I have an 8x Toshiba Dvd-burner (SD-R5272). I've been burning at 8x no problem on Memorex 8x DVD-Rs. I just bought a crapload of Memorex 16x DVD-Rs and for some reason Nero will only let me choose to burn up to 4x. I've updated my firmware from Toshiba's website and the problem is still there. Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?
Thanks,
Bonggler

hope you are NOT backing up movies burning at that speed 16X thats WAY to fast .
is your Nero updated to the lastest verison?
they just may not burn at that speed
you might consider changing media too since memerox makes some of the WORST blank media on the market today (CMC Mag) NOT good media
try the good stuff as in Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim or Ritek(ridata)

i agree with aabbccdd..even though they say 16x they may not even burn that fast but if you could burn them that fast you would have a ton of errors...and memorex are no good anyway ...i only use Maxell and Sony dvd-r's...try them out.

If you can take or send back those memosux discs and get some good quality 8x media instead. No reason to pay more for 16x rated media when it is not recommended burning over 4x for video backups anyway.

while YOU may let Memorex slide this time creaky, i WILL NOT~! :)
i often times see the words "crapload"/"crap" and "memorex" in the same sentence, but Bonggler put a new twist to it~ :)
he purchased a "crapload" of these "crappy" "memorex" discs and now he's stuck with them :(
if at all possible Bonggler, i would really take the advice from Mort81 and try to get a REFUND or an exchange for some GOOD quality discs~ :)
lastly, with a media ID coding on these Memorex 16x DVD-R CMC MAG. AM3, go figure, i'm surprised it even burns them @ 4x~ :)
next time Bonggler, if you have the most recently updated firmware on YOUR drive and a 16x rated media will ONLY write to it @4x, you have a clear indication there that you got a CRAPPY disc~ :)
i am in NO way trying to put you down Bonggler, but rather, just the opposite; i am just looking out for YOUR best interest in the future, sometimes the TRUTH hurts, but once you learn to use GOOD quality media, you will no longer have this problem~ :)
also, let's say you go out and get an exchange for those Memorex 16x rated discs and pick up some Verbatim 16x instead, you WILL be able to burn the Verbs @8x/@12x/@16x, but i suggest you keep your burns down to 8x...i've used well over 2 hundred of the MCC004 Verbatim 16x DVD+R and after thorough testing on disc scans, 8x is a VERY safe bet in terms of speed...NEVER burn @16x, even on GOOD quality media, your chance of errors is TOO high and you will regret it~
good luck, sorry to go on and on..but, i do NOT let memorex slide thru the cracks, i will hunt them down and say what NEEDS to be said.

Lol I meant I wasn't gonna taunt the CMC Mags (just for a change), not to say they were fine. All I can add is that I have 2 threads in my siggy dedicated to Memorex that have the utterly atrocious CMC Mags in the starring role :)

You know, it's so funny that people that usually have problems with their burns mention the taboo word, "Memorex". I am very picky of what I put in my burner since it would cause problems that I'm unaware of or wearing out the eye sensor.
When times does get desperate, buy 5-25 discs if you are unsure of the quality of the discs. I personally have not tried TY, but Verbatim, TDK, and Fuji have worked for me and will not venture out of those 3 brands.
