I basically know jack-sh-- about computers and just downloaded a BitTorrent. I downloaded FF7: advent children,s sweet movie, in less than a few hours. Now every other download says it'll take 4 Days, my download rate is between 6-7KB/s and I have a CA3 ethernet port from Verizon on a Westell 2000 modem. Thanks

1. Do you have a router?
2. Do you operate behind a firewall?
3. Do you operate behind a proxy
4. Do your ISP block any ports?
5. What is your internet speed?
6. How many seeds are on the torrent?
7. Is the torrent on a registered tracker?
8. Have you waited to see if the torrent picks up speed?

Answer these questions first, and then we'll try and figure out the problem ;)

Ok.

Check if your firewall is configured to open the ports your BitTorrent client uses.

For your own sake, disable windows firewall, it only creates the illusion that you are protected by it.

If you don't know if your ISP blocks any ports, call them up and ask them!

If the tracker requires registration, have you registered?

Okay... I just disabled my firewalls and opened up my ports through windows...but still slow. Do I still have to forward the ports if I don't have a router, if so how? Another thing, how would I configure my westell modem? thanks for everyone's help.

Aight, the guide helped me out alot, but still no increase. The highest is 25Kb/s. I used previous advice and opened up the ports to use BitTorrent, still slow. i then used the guide found out my speed (after the math) was 32kb/s. but after testing at broadbantreports.com it said my transfer rate was 104kb/s, should i use DRTCP or timetamping or does it matter. I then downloaded BitComet and changed the properties. I then registered with torrentleech and put the movie Oldboy in the torrent. I waited an hour to check the speed and it said 5Kb/s. What the hell, am i doing something wrong??

How many seeds/leechers there is? The less, the worse.
And if you are in state not connectable, speed will be lower.
Are you sure your calculations are correct?

Make sure you are not uploading/downloading when doing a speed test!

OK @ mlinuxko the highest number of seeds i saw that i downloaded was 230 for olldboy. i am sure that the math is right.
To Mike, I wasn't downloading when doing the speeed test and my results stayed the same. I also downloaded the DRTCP and changed the settings like broadbandreports told me. Now my browser is slower and my doenloads are only downloading at 1-5KB/s. I appreciate the help and its probably my lack of computer knowledge thats hurting me but I don't know what to do.

noobiedoo,

please post a screenshot of your speed test and then a screenshot of your tweak test results, becase you should definetely NOT have a decrease in speed after the test...

Also, i havent added it to my guide yet, but under prefernces in BC you should change Max connections to 90.

Thanks for the response, but what exactly do you need a screenshot of and how how would I take this screenshot? Basically all the information that would be in the screenshot I copied and pasted for you. Is there something I missed?

yes, what you inserted at the top where it ask for your advertised speed and such.

To take a screenshot, press alt+prnt scrn and then paste that in Paint. Then upload that picture to http://imageshack.us and then post here.

good luck!

Mike,

Holding alt only takes a screenshot of the top window, therefore...cutting out the desktop, etc that you might not want in the screenshots.
